I wan't given any guidelines on that, but I'm in my 6th week post op and I still sleep with a pillow wedge as I call it. lol! I assume it will be months until I try sleeping flat. I'm too scared of the acid pain.

I wasn't given any guidelines on that but I found it uncomfortable to lay in any other position for a while. But then again I was a back sleeper anyway.

The day after surgery I was sleeping on my side. the nurse said as long as it didn't cause me pain it was fine. It was a little sore getting into position, but once I was settled it felt really good. I brought a pillow from home that I hugged against my tummy.

You can sleep in what ever position is comfortable. If your incision hurts when you roll side to side (mine killed) try a compression tank top. Buy a cheap one. Target has them up to size 2X in the woman's underwear dept. You can wrap you abdomen with a couple of 4-5" wide ace bandages. the band's need to be completely flat and just tight enough to stop the incision pain. Someone will need to help you wrap it. The first time the medical assistant in your surgeons office doing it, if it's close by would be a good choice.

I'm a totally picky, crazy side/tummy angle sleeper. Dozed on and off on my side night of surgery (mostly stayed up and walked the halls). I had best luck first few nights at home wedges on my side in a recliner with pillows. About one week out, was able to sleep as I normally would.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
