Can't tolerate chewable vitamins

Recommended Posts

Four weeks post-op I was allowed to start on regular Vitamins (Centrum). I was right there with you, the chewables were making me gag.

I gag/vomit when I take my chewable Vitamin. So today I picked up some store bought gummies. I know their not considered "complete" but some Vitamins are better than none right? When did your dr allow you to start taking pill form Multivitamins?

I started taking pills the day I got home from the hospital, the day after surgery. No problems.

I used Centrum chewables, which you can actually suck to death under your tongue.

I found them lovely and a nice treat.

I never chewed them!

gummies don't have the Iron which is really needed after this surgery with the diet....

There are many kinds of chewables out there..I take Flintstones complete lol. NUT recommend!! But tgey are just ok. Not a treat lol

Some ppl just take pills you swallow but better to get cleared for that. I hate many Vitamins bc thy are huge or make you belch the flavor yuk

Good fortune

I'm rny, I switched to pills at 3 months. Went from 11 chewables a day to 5 tablets, and my life got so much better. The dissolveable/chewable are aweful!

I am using the transdermal Vitamin Patches. Once daily and only $19.99 for a 30 day supply. I purchased mine on Amazon. Btw, I am two weeks post op today. Loving life and moving forward...21.1 pounds down since pre diet! Good luck to you.

I have never been able to tolerate the chewables with the exception of Calcium citrate.

I actually buy the generic brand multi Vitamin with added D3 from walgreens. They are small and I am able to easily swallow them. I also take D3 which i was taking before surgery, my calcium chews and a B1 because I did have a deficiency at 6 months post op so they have had me on that every since. Lastly B12 liquid.....

It took me a while to figure it out but now that I have, there is no problem getting Vitamins on time daily. My labs look good as well.

I tried FLINTSTONES YUKKY!! I tried Centrum YUKKY. I started buying Celebrate capsules online. They are $15 for 90 and I usually buy 4 bottles at a time so I don't have to pay S/H. I was told if I couldn't swallow them that I could open them up and sprinkle them on applesauce or something that I could just swallow them with. I understand that all DR have their way of doing things but I have always taken BARIATRIC Vitamins because I feel like it is my health and I don't want to take any chances of not getting everything I need. That is just my way of thinking. We paid dearly for our surgery's and I want to be healthy as I can be. I know I won't ever be healthy, wealthy and wise but 1 out of 3 isn't bad!! RIGHT LOL

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
