The thing is it is not anyone's place to judge other people. Lots of anger here. Its really none of your business unless you are asked for advice. Because speaking of honesty I do not believe half the people when they say they do not cheat or mess up and brag about how perfect they are. Lies. 60% of people mess up because we are human and we have issues with food. And every site i have read says do not become obsessive with never having a grain of sugar or you will burn out and regain. Stop pushing your agenda on other people. If they fail it is on them. If they ask for your help go ahead. This new America where everyone attacks everyone else and talks about how perfect they are makes me sick. Positive encouragement is all you can do. I have been only able to eat very small calories and havnt lost weight yet as I am two weeks out. I have to believe in the system. But people have no idea why other people get the surgery. Worry about your own self! This mean kid online mentality is cowardly and ridiculous.

Wait, whuuuuuuut? Who's offering unsolicited advice? What on earth are you talking about?

I didn't "cheat" pre or post op. No lie. That doesn't make me better than anyone. I was simply determined to be successful this time around. I eat sugar from time to time, never said I don't. I really have no idea who are what you are lashing out about.

I'm with @@LipstickLady no clue what ur talking about and when it's posted on a public site for thoughts advice or questions that made it her and everyone else who visits this site they're business. So that aspect made no sense and nobody was Harassing or judging but giving her the truth of what needs to be done with the journey you can't sugar coat everything let me tell you if my professors in college sugar coated everything for me I would have never succeeded in getting my RN being tough on people sometimes opens there eyes to new prospectives in life and to what needs to be done for success. She made it everyone's business. Have a blessed and great day and gl in your journey.

Just so we're clear, the word "judgemental" gets thrown around a lot on this forum. You can feel judged by someone, even if they weren't being judgemental and that is your own issue. Not being able to accept the truth.

Judgmental: "I'm a much better person than you, and always will be because I didn't cheat on my pre-op diet. Failures like you don't deserve this wonderful opportunity to change their lives for the better because you're just going to waste it anyway."

Enabling: "I know, I cheated on my pre-op diet too and I was fine so I wouldn't worry about it! It's just a suggested diet anyway and you know what your body needs more than some doctor! You got this girl!"

Bullying: "Why are you so stupid? Morons like you should be taken out of the gene pool, since you obviously took a shallow dive to begin with. If I was there right now I'd seriously whoop you because I can't stand people who come around here looking for sympathy because they are screw ups."

Supportive: "I can appreciate that this is really hard, because I went through it myself 2 years ago. The temptations don't go away, you will probably always struggle some. But it gets easier the longer you make the right choices. I think you really need to consider why you had this surgery if you aren't making 100% efforts to follow your doctor's guidelines."

THIS!!!!

Where do you get that 60% figure? And even if it's true that leaves 40% who stuck to their plan (I'm another that finds the word "cheat" inaccurate, it's a choice to eat off plan) so why do you not believe that someone is part of that 40%?

I think you see anger where none exists. See above post that delineates bullying vs straight talk. No anger here.

I did stick to my plan. In part thanks to a Vitamin shoppe employee who basically told me to suck it up when I was moaning about not being able to "tolerate" the clear Protein. She said it's a week of your life, it doesn't taste good, suck it up and do it anyway.

If she hadn't said that to me I might not have stuck to my plan. Some of us thrive with the straight talk. If you tell us we can't do that, those people will flounder. You can have your positive encouragement posts and threads if that's how you thrive.... but you can't say we can't have the other. People have different needs!

@@summerset I guess I'd ask you then: if coming here to vent because of the inundation of 'awww, sweetie, you can't control yourself, go ahead and have that moon pie then do better tomorrow' posts isn't appropriate, then what is? What do you see this section being designed for?

I think there is something in between "cuddling" and "a kick in the ass". ;)

I'm neither a cuddling person but I'm also not a fan of this so called "tough love" (which is more often than not simply just plain rude). I'll never understand people who want to be yelled at instead of receiving factual criticism. I just don't get it.

As for myself: I don't want to be cuddled but I also don't want a swift kick to my back. Give me factual criticism and keep sarcasm and whatnot to yourself!

So if someone holds the opinion that he/she needs to give me some "tough love": Just F*** Off! If you're not able to voice your opinion in a civilized kind of way, just go away. Your "advice" might not be as unique and special as you think and I'm sure there is someone who's able to voice the exactly same advice in a more factual manner. :)

I think you've lost sight of where this post is...it's in Rants and Raves. And I think telling people to fuck off while demanding civility isn't a very sound piece of (high) ground to stand on, for anyone. Again, thus the function of a place where we can blow off a bit of steam while still being civilized out in the rest of BP.

Good thing there are all types of advice here for all types of listeners.

Not sure I would have been as successful as I've been without some swift kicks in the pants, so I'm glad they exist on here.

Take what you like and leave the rest.

All I am going to say on this is... make sure that when you come back to this topic at 2 yrs, 3yrs, 4 yrs out that you aren't embarrassed by the younger you. There are a lot of things I said/posted/assumed/postulated and I honestly can't go back and read those posts. I KNEW SO MUCH and i was SO JUDGEMENTAL about other people and I was NEVER GOING TO DO some of the things I do, to this day.

Be very careful... even if what you're saying is 'approved and on plan', it's possible to come across as a blowhard who has no idea what the Sleeved Life is like. it's nearly impossible to explain, it's different every day for every person and... you just never know what caveats you'll bow to when you're further down the road.

I will be 4 yrs out in Dec, have met a lot of people on this journey. Most of us shut the hell up after awhile, because you just never know.

Yes, I knew that would cause some disagreement and I'm ok with that but I thought "when in Rome do like the Romans do". Hey, it's "rants and raves", so it's ok - right? ;)

But I'm with you - it's not ok to use that kind of language and I apologize for it.

I didn't tell anybody in particular to do you-know-what. See it as a more general statement: "If you plan on giving me your sarcasm and/or venom, keep it to yourself".

When looking at the general tone of numerous posting on here, I'm surprised it's seen as a big deal. People throw around words like "bitch", calling other users "stupid" and "idiots", but this is supposed to be a problem?? What about these big-girl-panties, btw? Are they hiding in the closet now?

But maybe what comes at play here is what you said above: everything is alright, unless you disagree with certain people. ;)

I have no problem with someone disagreeing with me. I do have issue with name calling and telling people to "f" off.

Actually, I have no problem with that either. It's very telling about one's character when they have to resort to such behavior.

It's a shame some people can't discuss, debate, diasagree without stooping to such levels.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
