ie walk slowly, gently post op

this will help you get rid of gas too

official exercise ie treadmill, machines, eliptical

don't do til you get his approval

Thank you Kathy, only had my op on Tuesday, been walking to try and get rid of the gas, I'm constantly burping! I see my doctor in 10 days so will ask him then :)

I'm feeling good thank you, hope you're well yourself!

I waited five months when I felt I had the strength to exercise. Eating so few calories makes you weak, so you need to let your body catch up. I started a full body workout, three days per week. Full cardio and weight training. It is a definite must to weight train so your muscles build to jump start your metabolism. It is definitely working for me. I've gone from 49% body fat to 32% in these months and have lost 88lbs of fat and gained 20lbs of lean muscle. I'm down 5 shirt/pants sizes too. Wouldn't have happened without the gym.

My Dr. Suggested walking only for the first six weeks to help prevent hernias. Now, I do Tae Kwon Do four days a week, and I love it. There's something awesome about kicking the crap out of a target with a well- placed roundhouse kick...then punching it when it's down.

We were told the rule of thumb is when you are able to tolerate eating solid foods indicates that your stomache is healed up, and excercise can be introduced slowly, in the same way you reintroduced foods. Take it easy, if it hurts - stop. Build up slowly, especially after a few weeks of minimal activity you could risk hurting the surgery injury or developing a new injury to joints.

I plan to start lifting weights as soon as I can, as I've never enjoyed cardio. I loved seeing my progress week after week, and loved how capable I felt in my day to day routine.

I was amazed after lumping a 60lb box of cat litter up the 4 flights of stairs to my apartment without feeling out of breath or slightly fatigued, for example.

This topic worries me as I currently lift weights 3 to 4 times a week. I lift for about an 1 1/2 and I lift heavy in a pyramid with lots of reps at the lower weights. It keeps me sane. I am worried that after surgery it will take me months or longer to get back to lifting the way I am now. I know the weight loss is important so I have to look at the big picture.

Ask your doctor and they'll give you a timeline. Don't push yourself too hard. I was sleeved on March 1st, 2016 and down 133 at 9 months. I also got on the treadmill and walked only within a few days. (It was cold here and outside walking wasn't an option).

Weights and strength training have been slow going and there are some things that still hurt to do, but I know that's because I haven't done them in months.

Trying to personally get my legs and core as toned as possible over the next three weeks... December 21st I'm having the skin removal done. (Yes, already) and I can't wait.

I'm a little late, but yeah, check with your doc. They may not be the best expert on everything, but I can guarantee you that if you DON'T check first, and something goes wrong, they will lay all the blame at your feet.

Beyond that, pay very close attention to what your body is telling you. I do a lot of heavy lifting for my business, and I have been going very slowly to make sure I don't rip anything loose. And of course, I clear it all with the doc ahead of time.

@@Webapprentice, sorry, but it will take some time for you to lift weights. Just ask your surgeon when you can.

I just walked post-op for six weeks. That was how long my doctor told me to avoid strenuous activity, so I did. Then I eased myself into more vigorous exercise, avoiding anything that hurt my abdomen. Now I swim, hike, kayak, and lift weights without any discomfort.

Ask your doctor what activity to do post-op, when you can resume vigorous exercise, and what exercise to do. That's your best resource.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
