Post surgery vegan chewable vitamins

Recommended Posts

So my surgery is getting closer. Hoping for December. I'm meeting with my surgeon for his final approval then I need my insurance approval (they claim it takes about 2 weeks). Anyway met with my nutritionist last week and he said I need to take a chewable multi supplement with Iron and vit d right after surgery. Also he said no Gummy formulas. Anyone have a vegan multi that meets all these requirements? So far I've had no luck finding one. Thanks

I went to Dr Davis website and Facebook page but didn't find this info. His website just takes you to Bariatric Advantage website for supplements. I'm pretty sure the d3 in their multi is not vegan. I'm in the process of reading his book. I've been looking in local stores and online.

When I was getting everything ready for surgery, I spent like an hour in whole foods in the Vitamin aisle. There are a lot of vegan/vegetarian Vitamins there. You may have to take separate Vitamins to get the doses you need according to your labs. I am taking a chewable multi, liquid D drops and sublingual B12 right now.

For the Vitamin D.... D2 is from yeast or plant sources, while D3 is usually from lanolin. this is a bummer because D2 is supposedly not readily absorbed by the body. After much consideration and soul searching, I decided to take the D3 because my blood levels were super low.

I like the disolvable Vitamins. Also Calcium. The only thing I added was liposomal vit c it's a capsule with paste inside I cut it in half

I've been looking for the same. This isn't a chewable, but it's definitely vegan and apparently the pill is super-tiny:

Nature's Plus makes two vegetarian chewable multis, and I can't figure out why they're not vegan, but they don't list them as vegan (I haven't contacted them to clarify this, but I would if I were thinking of purchasing them). This one by Country Life might be vegan as well?

You could try a children's vegan chewable multi-Vitamin which are easier to find, and take a larger dose as directed by your health care provider, supplementing with more Iron or B12 or other elements as needed (these are also easier to find as vegan chewables on their own).

You could also utilize an 'all-on-one' Protein drink that includes Vitamins and minerals (though some don't contain iron). My favourite is Progressive VegEssentials All-In-One in the natural vanilla flavour. It's really good mixed with Water and one or two tablespoons of frozen orange juice concentrate. Their vegan Protein powders are the best-tasting and least-gritty I've found.

(P.S. That's a beautiful ginger kitty you've got there. I used to have a giant, floofy ginger boy. Now all my floofs are grey.) :)

Thanks for the suggestions Canoodley. I suspect that the natures one and country life multis have a non vegan d3. Which is made from lanolin. I'm going to check with my nut to see if the children's chewables are acceptable. Cute kitty you have there too!!!

Vitabay and Vitality Nutritionals have a vegan Vitamin d3 - Vitabay even has the 20.000 IE high dose capsules.

@@summerset thank you! I hadn't found this product in my searches and thought i was stuck between choosing lanolin based D3 or ineffective D2. I will check it out.

Hi everyone, I'm having a hard time finding a chewable/liquid/ez-melt calcium/D3 Vitamin that's (1) vegetarian or vegan and (2) with no added sugar OR sugar alcohol (fructose is OK). I haven't considered vitamin patches - but I have an allergy to adhesive (tape, bandaids), so that complicates things!

I figured I'd ask here in case someone has any good Calcium products they can recommend. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
