November RNY Surgery Buddies 2016

Recommended Posts

My RNY was 11/14/16 I would love to have buddies to get through this together

HTwist~255~RNY 11/14/2016

Hi Heather, my surgery was also on the 24th. I am so glad its over. I still don't have my strength back and find it difficult to walk too far but I know I'm healing. Thanksgiving day has been difficult...but I'll survive. Two of my incisions are still pretty painful and make it difficult to get up from a sitting or lying position. I have to say, I am very hungry and can't wait till I can have real food to eat. So how are you doing???

I'm doing okay. I went in for RNY and had to the sleeve because my intestines are twisted. I'm being discharged today since I'm doing okay walking and drinking Water. Can't bend over to get my shoes on so will need to ask a nurse for help. Just waiting for my sister to come get me.

So how do you feel about being sleeved instead of RNY?? I'll tell you what...I NEVER thought my pain level wld be this BAD!! Thank goodness my fiancé took this week off or idk what I'd do!! He helps me around & even to bathroom etc... they found my stomach was all twisted up in my chest so Surgery took 5hrs instead of normal 1 1/2hrs....idk if that's the reason I'm in soooo much pain? But the Fluid I my lungs isn't helping!!! Can't explain enough to do your breathing exercises!!! Hope you feel better soon...prayers

Well it's 11days since my surgery, all incisions but the left side where the drainage tube was, are not sore anymore. I can bend and lay in bed pretty normal now. The left side is still a little sore but it's getting there. Doesn't help I have a 7 month old beagle who loves to jump on me. food is the challenge right now but at the same time it isn't. I want so many things I can't have yet when it actually comes down to eating stuff I'm allowed...I have no appetite or I have a few bites and I'm full. I'm still on the full liquids til the end of next week but I can't stand my Protein powder anymore. I mix it will 1% milk and I can't even get 8oz down so I try to eat a little cottage cheese for the Protein. I drink Water with crystal light all day so fluids are ok. I'm going today to buy the premier Protein shakes that are already made. A little pricey but their only 11oz and have 30g in each one so if I can drink one for Breakfast and one for lunch I will be better than I am now protein wise. My first follow up appt is Tuesday. Hope it goes well. How are you today? Trust me the soreness gets better everyday

They had to call my sister when I was on the table to ask about switching to the sleeve. My sister knew I wanted the surgery so she told them yes. It's okay. I really couldn't decide between the two. I don't have any gas pain. The only pain I have is from the one incision on my right side. I have a raging headache though so I'm going to get liquid Tylenol. I doubt I'm drinking enough liquids and need to do better. All I've had since I've been home is Water and diluted juice.

Wow....you had it good (as far as pain level)...not sure how I'd feel in your position...def wld want the sleeve if no other option...but waking up being told you didn't get RNY?? but it's better than them telling you, you can't have surgery whatsoever...right

I've been in & out of hospital/ER every since my surgery! Lots of labs & IVs....potassium infusions etc....been siiiiiick & not able to eat or drink for days...two weeks out & 20+ lbs down... not the healthiest way to lose it..but today I started taking Carafate (spelling?) & meds to curb my sickness & man has it done wonders! I can finally eat & drink (found some YUMMY tortilla broth @ Woodman's) & im HOOKED! I dilute it w/ water to get my liquids in (cuz nurse said count broth as a liquid now) & it don't mess w/ my pouch (aka Hermione)...so I'm happy I can start getting liquids in!!! Yaaay!

That does not sound good. Yes I'm okay with the sleeve. It's better than nothing. I won't lose weight as fast but I have had no issues with food or drinking anything. I am sure it will be good I'll just have to work harder to lose the extra weight.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
