Hi!

I am going to Celebrate my 2 yr post op anniversary. I am about 15-20 lbs from Goal. I am very disappointed in myself. I gave up, And gave in to my old ways.

For months now, it's been that way.

However, my body is getting pudgy and soft. Same weight up and down a few lbs but, soft. I need to get back to the gym and eating right. I get my Protein but am clueless in how to eat again. Sounds silly, but it's the truth.

Any help or criticism appreciated

Tracy

I'm 2+ years out. From April to June, I had managed to put on 5 pounds by slacking off a little on my exercise and letting too much sugar sneak back in. I've since done intermittent fasting, focused more on building muscle and high intensity interval training, and upped my Protein to 90 grams a day. It took me a couple of months, but I've managed to take off the 5. I've also lost inches.

I was eating 1000 calories a day in weight loss mode, and mostly just a Protein prepared the way I like and a green veggie for lunch and dinner. I did start Protein shakes again in the morning to help get my 90 grams in. Lots of Water or very low/no calorie beverages!

A few days a week, I would stop eating at 8:00 PM and not eat again until noon the next day, and then eat only 500 calories the rest of the day (mostly just shakes). Those were the 'fast' days. Although hard at first, it seemed to really help get my metabolism going again. I also felt better restriction with my sleeve afterwords. Lots of information online about it if interested. It's called 16:8 Intermittent fasting.

Good luck! You'll get back on track!

well, I'd prefer to think that you had a rest from the rigmarole of it all and now you're ready to hit it again! and think of it this way - you're 2 years out and have not gained back your weight! now you're ready to tackle that last bit. you are a success, not a failure!

so - go back to eating lean Protein, planning and measuring meals, veg, real fruit. whole foods.

and if the gym isn't an option make sure you're getting your 10000 steps per day and maybe add in some strength training or yoga at home. if the gym is a right now option then get planning it into your day, remember to ease back into your activity - ya don't want any crazy injuries!

I'm in the same situation. It will be 2 years next week and have lost 104 pounds in total but now have gained 12 pounds back. I'm so disappointed with myself, I'm afraid that I've stretched out the sleeve and have done this for nothing. I know I need to get back to basics but really struggling to get there. So thank you for reminding me that I'm not alone we are all on this journey together and I know you can find your way back and get to your goal.

I'm glad I'm not alone. It is hard.

I've read conflicting stories about our sleeve stretching. I believe it does.

Over filling to often keeps it stretched from my understanding.

Ugh, I need that Big book of Gastric Sleeve.

Hey there I'm new to this weight lost journey and I'm having a very difficult time adjusting to this life style my surgery was in 8/19/16 and so far I have lost 32 lbs but for the last 2 wks I've been craving sweets and I must admit I have been eating quite a few. Is it too late for my body to adjust and for the weight to come off?? Please NO Rude responses

I don't think it's ever too late to get back on track eating healthy. I haven't had my surgery yet but I know for me I am going to have to track everything I eat for the rest of my life. Otherwise I will go back to mindless snacking. I am tired of being obese.

Watch some WLS and VSG YouTube videos. I get very inspired watching people's journeys, they shrink before your eyes!!

I started the 16:8 intermittent fasting 48 hours ago. Not bad actually. I just get super cranky between 10 am and. Not on

I have lost 7 lbs on the Intermittent fasting. I do it everyday. I'm beginning to think it's too much lol

I should do it every other day right?

It's not that bad. Except from 9am-noon I am a bear.

But, I now listening to my body instead of my head. I actually only get hungry twice a day. But my mind gets hungry around 100 times a day lol

I am almost 2 years out (surgery in Jan 2015) not regaining significantly (3-5 lbs but that's where it starts) but sort of stuck at 25 lbs from goal for 6+ months. I too had let my old habits sneak back in - eating junk, fried foods, sugar, drinking alcohol. I was on the verge of ordering NutriSystem, as I thought the pre-portioned, nutritious meals would help me, but it is EXPENSIVE! I went in search of a way to replicate NutriSystem on my own and found a book called "The Simple Diet: A Doctor's Science-Based Plan" by Dr. James Anderson. It is the easiest plan I have ever done, it is perfect for a post WLS patient and I am so happy I found it. I lost 8 lbs in the first week - that is a lot for someone only needing to lose 25! I'm now on week two, so I'll let you know how it goes.

If you're interested, I highly recommend you get the book - I downloaded it to my Kindle. Basically, you use a mix of Protein Shakes and frozen Entrees as Meal Replacements. They have to meet certain nutritional requirements for calories/fat/protein to be acceptable on the diet, all of that is outlined in the book. You also get unlimited fruits and vegetables in between or with meals (of course w/ no added fat/calories) - none are off limits either - including bananas/potatoes/corn/starchy fruits and vegetables. Water, exercise and that's about it! It's so "simple" and with my restricted stomach size, the portions of these meals are perfect for me.

I've really enjoyed the variety I get and surprisingly have found some absolutely delicious frozen meals (Blake's Lasagna Bolognese and Shepherd's Pie are as good as homemade). I thought I would share for those that may be struggling too in case it could help others!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
