Post Op Diet Journal - Phase 1

Recommended Posts

I promised my doctor I wouldn't weigh myself everyday and I have failed. Is anyone else having problems with this? I got on the scale this morning and I lost 3 more pounds and I am very happy. It kind of motivates me to stay on my liquids and write everything down but I don't want it to backfire later on when my weight loss slows down. How is everyone else handling this? Any advice would be much appreciated at this time.

I've been weighing every day - I just can't help it. (I always get obsessive about it when dieting - I know it's not good)

My boyfriend has threatened to hide the scale :heh:

Hi Candle and Shelli---I too weigh myself everyday. Up until now, I was afraid to get on scales. In fact, I could not find the scales!!!

Went to see surgeon this afternoon. He is real pleased. I will be on liquids until 17th and them mushies. I thought I would be on mushies for 3 weeks and he said that I would be on mushies 1 week and then solid food. So, let me see 16 days until real food. I will be scared to death, to be honest, to eat real food.

Very happy with my weight loss so far.

Keep up the good work, keep healing and have a great weekend.

love ya,

I haven't seen my doctor since surgery - I have an appointment on Mon. Then I can start mushies!! (sorry to rub it in Claramae :heh: )

I had a little nibble of egg salad that I made for Joe tonight. It was good!!! My Magic Bullet blender reduced 2 eggs to dust :heh:

I'm a little scared to eat too. A little scared of fills and restriction too. I wasn't expecting to feel this way.

Hi Candle,

I had a little nibble of scrambled egg today. I have been so lethargic for the past two days I don't think I am getting in enough Protein or calories. I am not too scared to eat pureed food because some of the cream Soups I have had have been as thick as baby food. Also I have had no nausea and all the runblings in my tummy have gone away. I am ready - bring it on. Yeah I am not looking forward to the first fill even though I trust my doctor but come on that needle is soooooooooo long. :) After you zapped the hard boil eggs could you have make egg salad out of it? I am wondering what that will do to tuna. Maybe I should use the food processor or blender instead. I can see Phase 2 will be an new adventure too.

Take care,

shelli

Well ... I officially moved myself up to mushies today :thumb:

I went grocery shopping today and I just couldn't take it any more!!

Yes, I made egg salad with the pulverized egg. It was pretty much egg salad paste :heh:

I put some canned chicken in the Bullet today and had 2 ozs of chicken salad (paste :heh: ) I'm not going to lie to you - it was reeeeeeeeeeally good!!!

I'm going to do some cooking tomorrow and just make a bunch of stuff to keep in the fridge. (My boyfriend is traveling this week anyway)

Mashed:

-Potato

-Sweet Potato

-Carrots

-Butternut Squash

Salads:

-Ham (low sodium from the deli)

-Chicken (canned)

-Tuna

-Egg Salad

If I get really brave I bought some imitation crab & lobster meat.

I also got some low fat Ricotta, Cottage, and Munster Cheeses, refried Beans, oatmeal ... I went crazy!

The chart from my nutrionist says I can have a few crackers with the salads or thinly sliced deli meats but I'm not sure if I want to try them yet.

What kind of guidelines did you guys get for mushies?

Mine is < 800 calories, > 70 Protein, < 75 carbs, < 25 fat

I never thought I would look forward to blender tuna!!!!

Shelli---I will be on solid foods before you. I will be on mushies for 1 week and then solids. I am actually afraid to eat solids. Guess it is good to proceed with caution. Believe me I will not be fool hearted.

Candle, good to hear from you. Today has been up and down for me. Depression has set in. I think my hormones are changing, or something. Also been a little sick at tummy. Nothing taste good. So, I guess there will be days like that.

Sounds like you are doing good.

What's the name of the Protein and how many Proteins per pack?

Is it located where the crystal light mixes are?

I am trying to find a protein that I like. When I met with my nutritionist she told me about a unflavored protein that you can find at Wal-Green called Beneprotein. It comes in individual packets. You can mix it in Soups or a bottle of Water. (or anything else you want to mix it with)

There are 6 grams of protein per servings.

Hey all,

I have been so tired today and yesterday. Is anyone else experiencing this? Hey Claramae and Candle! Claramae you are going to pass both Candle and me up when you move on to solids. Started the pureed foods a little today. Had half liquid and half pureed. You won't believe how full you get on 2 spoonfuls of mashed potatoes, 2 spoonfuls of applesauce, and 1 scrambled egg. Super stuffed and only 800 calories today. I am going to bed and hopefully fell better tomorrow. sleep well everyone.:notagree

Shelli---hope you feel better tomorrow. I felt the exhaustion a couple of days ago. I think it is our body adjusting to the change we are going through. Let us know how you feel tomorrow.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
