Sushi after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I know that for a while my food will be restricted and I've accepted that. However, sushi is my utmost favorite food that I've ever eaten. With that being said, I know rice is a touchy food for a lot of people but is there anyone that has tried to test the waters

Once they were a while out like 6mo or a year later?

If I have to say goodbye then so be it, but if I know there will be a day that I can eat it once again, I'd be so happy!

I had my surgery in June and I've had sushi, but I only ate half of a slice of a roll with brown rice and the rest was sashimi. You shouldn't have to completely remove ANYTHING from your diet forever but you'll probably want to limit rice. So yes, you should be able to have sushi, in limited amounts :)

I had sashimi and naruto rolls pretty early on post op- by 3-4 weeks it was allowed on my plan. I don't miss the rice and without it, it's a solid high Protein rchoice for our post op diet!

I have sashimi often post-op (since moving to soft foods). I do not have rice in my program yet but I don't miss it.

If you know the place and like cucumber avocado or asparagus (and can eat veg) you can ask for roll with veg instead of rice

Almost three years out and I still can't tolerate rice.

But I do sashimi and poke and rolls without rice. Love it!

I imagine you should be able to if your body will let you have rice. I'm two weeks post op today and had sashimi the other day and it was okay. I just made sure to pick one that wont be disgusting to chew too long ????

i am almost one year out - and i have no problems eating sushi. the quantity i can eat is obviously much smaller - one small roll, max before i am full, but i have no problems tolerating rice. i order sashimi a lot though, just because i feel like it's a healthier choice for me since i'm still in the losing stage. however, every once in a while i want my favorite roll :)

Yes sushi without rice is called sashimi. They usually serve it with a side of rice. I am a sashimi freak hehe.

Yes, and rolls without rice are called naruto rolls. They wrap the fish in thin slices of cucumber instead of rice and seaweed.

Over three years out and rice makes me yarf. I ask for it rolled in cucumber or avocado most often. I love sashimi and kani salad as well. My favorite restaurant knows to put it in a handroll without rice without me even asking at this point.

My nutritionist loves sashimi...and so do I. The only thing I can't do is squid or octopus. They always sit in my stomach like a rock until they decide to come back up again...

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
