PreOp eating everything in sight?

Recommended Posts

Long term you can eat whatever for the most part. Not being able to eat things is pretty short term. That is kind of hard to conceptualize pre-op though.

I ate a lot of stuff pre-op thinking I would never have it. It was untrue but it did help me get through about a month without food.

I relate. I was unfilled to prepare for a band to sleeve revision. I tried to shake this mentality but failed lol. I put on 20+ lbs in a matter of 5 months. I felt so out of control that when it was time for my Pre-op diet, I felt relieved to end the madness.

Just finished mine this past week, I've eaten/drank all and everything I wanted. Monday is my two week pre-op diet start, and I'm satisfied that I got to enjoy all of my favorites one more time.

I found that towards the end of my splurge though, I started feeling sluggish and crappy all over again like I used to before, so honestly it's good for the body and the brain to say goodbye and remember while you're doing this!

I don't have a surgery date yet, but I find myself dealing with this mentality that I will never be able to eat carbs and fats and Desserts again so I better eat it all now. Sound familiar to anyone or is it just me?

I did that. Gained 13 lbs and had no regrets. Now that I am post op, I am glad I got to eat and drink all my favorites before the pre-op stage. My last meal was amazing. Now I am content with the post op requirements and I have no cravings.

Note to self: I don't have to take this day all at once but rather one step, one breath and one moment at a time. I am only one person.

I too had a low BMI 34. I was a cash pay patient and tbought the same thing. Will I ever be able to eat all my favorite foods??

So 1 month prior to my pre op diet my honey and I ate/drank EVERYTHING we wanted. I made so many crunchy tacos..lol shredded beef, chicken, ground beef you name it. I LOVE TACOS!!! We ate out more often than ever enjoyed a few Happy Hours. Then ughhhhh I felt so sick of food I gained about 12 lbs felt like crap and was ready for my pre-op diet.

I'm 8 days post op and doing great. I won't lie the food commercials still look good..Haha I just have a shake and bam I'm stuffed. Good luck on your journey so far I'm loving it.

I am in the same boat. Awaiting approval and definitely planning some food funerals. My birthday is next month and we have this amazing German restaurant in town, the food is SO heavy, I am for sure going to enjoy it prior to pre-op dieting.......

You sound like me turtle5569! Did the same thing, binged on junk, ate all my faves, a few trips to Carvel ..my BMI was 37..and I'm 9 days out of sleeve surgery and feel great. I'm noticing that every other commercial is about food! My birthday is 9/24, and as long as I can have some lobster.. Even pureed is fine with me!!

I got really overwhelmed also and started eating like crazy then I realized what I was doing when my "fat" pants turned into skinny jeans. You have to figure out mentally what is bothering you so you don't self sabotage later in life again.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
