How much should I be able to eat

Recommended Posts

Wow, really. Is this petty nonsense the standard of this forum?

Thanks for asking the question about volume, @gustavo. A lot of nutritional advice can be a bit confusing or counter-intuitive. I'm still trying to get over the fact I can be so full on 3 spoonfuls of Beans, but can eat more tuna. Weird, eh?

I think it's a pretty normal human desire to make sure things are on track, particularly early on. Yes, we each have a plan to follow, but I think we learn by comparing advice and asking questions. Her question was about volume, not is it was OK to eat what she ate. Not sure why everyone was obsessed with the correctness of the Evil fruit Which Will Remain Unnamed.

Maybe when we are worried about the state of our own diets and progress, we want to validate our own opinions and knowledge just that bit more? We worked so hard for this change, and we all want to be correct in our respective plans. Maybe we need to learn some humility and empathy as well?

THANK YOU!!! I am a relatively happy go lucky person and have a hard time dealing with people that thrive on drama.

Was hoping for advice from people who have "been there, done that" instead got tons of judgement and negativity. It really left a bad taste in my mouth.

Left a bad taste in mine, too. Sometimes I think people want to be right or seem clever more tnan they actually want to learn or be helpful. I hope these folks were just having a bad night and things are better elsewhere on the forum!

I'm about six months out to give you an idea of what to expect. Average dinner for me is 3-4oz of chicken, with 1-2oz of broccoli. I only within the last week started adding vegies back into my diet. Some things I an eat more of, Soup goes down easy, any of the solid meat like chicken or beef is more filling. I'm generally limiting myself to Protein rich foods while I'm in the loosing weight period, so I haven't tried any fruit since surgery. I'm planning on expanding my food choices once I hit goal and start maintaining.

So today I ate an entire banana in one sitting. I ate slow of course but kept waiting to get full and didn't. I'm worried my "pouch" is too big? I'm almost 2 weeks out and this is the most I've eaten. I usually don't stop when I'm full, I stop when I start to feel a small amt of pressure.

I've been allowed bananas since day 14. I have a bag of bananas in the freezer. I grab a Protein shake, add in a 1-2 inch piece of banana and a tiny bit of ice and it through my Ninja blender. The banana helps bind the shake and ice.

Yes, God forbid anyone eat a piece of fruit BEFORE their Protein source. The Protein police will hang you alive.

Well, there's reasons why there are certain rules with bariatric surgery like the 'protein first' rule. They aren't making stuff up just for shitz and giggles. The rules are in place in order to be as successful as you possibly can be with the surgery.

Sadly, I see far too many people who seem to take those things more as suggestions and not actual rules for success.

Gosh, I love nothing better than eating a banana....some people on here really demonise foods that aren't quite chicken or cottage cheese.

I love to mix banana with egg to cook Protein pancakes, or even smoothies!

If you're posting about pizza, take away and ice cream, OK, you might get some nasty responses....but a banana!? Sheeshhhhh people. Leave the poor gal alone!

I think the first month we are allowed things like juice and bananas to get in extra calories that after we start eating normal it depends on how strict you want to be. Every individual is difrent as is our plans.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
