12 Days Post Op- Questions about food

Recommended Posts

Hello All, I'm 12 days out and other than being tired and having an extremely terrible bout of medication induced Constipation, I have been doing well. I have been drinking 2 Protein shakes a day and three 2oz full liquid meals ( often times broth ). I have a little bit of cottage cheese as well. I haven't had any problems with eating at all so far. Haven't really been hungry to speak of but have yet to feel full at all. I have been reading about food getting stuck, throwing up, etc.... I almost don't feel like anything has been done to my stomach. Am I just fooling myself? Am I in for a shock when i have solid foods? I would really appreciate some input.

Thanks

It sounds like you are doing great.

If you follow your surgeon's food phases then there really is no reason to expect to have issues. I think they are the exception and not the rule.

I am one week post op ... And feel much the same way you do. I forgot I had had the surgery at one point today during a meeting and found myself gulping my Water and then realized what I had done and froze, just waiting for the pain to hit ... And nothing. I started thinking the same thing as you - did I get duped!? Lol!

Yea, I'm not necessarily hungry for a grilled cheese sandwich or willing to mess up what I've done, I was just stating how strange it feels. I expected this to be more difficult and more restricted feeling. It does make it easier to make good choices. I'm one week post op and have lost 20.3 pounds.

I am not going to do anything either but I have been thinking about maybe some things I wouldn't mind having, again some goldfish crackers. LOL I hope when I finally eat one I hate them. I am day 5 and went shopping at the mall yesterday- I totally understand what you are talking about. Like I have a little secret.

@@jwitchy65 I'm 2 months post op and I had the same experience. I'm still waiting for something bad to happen! Never had any nausea, visiting, uncomfortable feeling, etc. All food has gone down easy. Some of us just heal really well, or had particularly talented surgeons or whatever. Don't sweat it.

I'm 13 days out and just started my soft foods, just a bit of egg salad..(hard boiled eggs light mayo and a bit of mustard to cut make it moist without overdoing the mayo.) I had some for lunch, and it was very little. My body let me know pretty quickly that I had had enough...i felt like the food was stuck in the middle of my chest for just a moment, so that was a good warning to slow it down and chew a bit more next go round. I felt the same as you about the liquids though. I sip all day and feel like i could guzzle it down without any issues...but i don't because i don't want to create an issue lol. Best of luck!

Remember, nerves were cut and right now you are on liquids/soft things like cottage cheese - not dense food. This is to let your stomach heal. Trust me, first time you have dense solid Protein - you'll notice a difference. But again, it will take a while for the healing and you may not "feel" it until you've had too much. This is why it is important to weigh and measure everything early out - you can't rely on "feeling" while still healing from the surgery.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
