Hi everyone!

This is my first time posting.. well, ever.

I just downloaded this app yesterday, and have read a lot of postings from others. Thank you for them, they've really helped me!

After almost two years of preparations... my surgery is scheduled for September 7th! I'm super happy! And nervous! And anxious! But mostly happy and excited!!!

I have a quick question for smokers. Anyone who is doing, or has done the sleeve surgery, who is also smoking.

My doctor said, "I will never encourage you to smoke, because it's bad for you, but it will have no impact on the surgery"

My anesthesiologist said, "it might impact your recovery a little".

Has anyone done the surgery and smoked cigarettes afterwards?

Does it impact you? Does it taste different? Does it feel weird, or make you feel bad?

If you've smoked after, how long did you wait until after the surgery to start again?

Any insight, stories or suggestions would be really, really appreciated!!

The surgery team that I dealt with would not even give you the surgery if you had nicotine in your system. I was tested a week pre-op and the morning of surgery. They said if nicotine was found they

I had to have 5 months nicotine free before my surgery...Dr wouldn't even consider it until you had 5 in a row thunder32

I'm 4 years post op. I stopped smoking one month before my surgery. I stayed not smoking for two more years following surgery. However I fell off the wagon and started smoking. Been smoking again for 2 years. No ulcer issues.

Yep, my doctor won't perform bypass surgery unless you quit for a year. It had to be at least a month for the sleeve (which is why I first choose the sleeve, but now I'm happy to do this surgery after more research and the help of you guys!)

I just potentially spent $114 on a blood test 2 weeks pre-op to show their is no nicotine in my system (Medicare may not pay for the blood test). Another bill to add to the list, but nothing will stop me now ...

So glad I'm smoke-free! Now I have money to buy all my Protein supplements and vitamins!

My surgeon told me there have been way too many complications in the past for smokers who have the surgery, which is why you have to quit before he will perform the surgery. I believe he said infections were an issue ...
