Just Beginning My Journey

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I'm a very new newbie if you will. I'm still in the gathering information stage. I've already called the insurance company to see what their procedures are and was told that before the surgery is approved I will have to go through a 6 month course. I'm waiting to get in to see my primary, but unfortunately due to an accident, he is out of the office for a while. Even though I don't need a referral from my primary to see a surgeon, I don't feel comfortable going ahead with that until I talk to my primary, especially since he is the one who is the most familiar with me and all of my medical issues. I'm really glad I found this board. It gives me an opportunity to become more informed about the procedure and create a list of questions for my doctor when I do finally get in to see him. It's going to be a long journey, but one that I'm very excited about. :girl_hug:

Hey Ailie,

I am just a very new newbie too! I am waiting on my insurance to add lap band. They cover gastric bypass but not currently lap band. They are meeting on it this week and I should know something next week. It may just be that I am going to have to wait while they do there own research but I really hope it is a yes.

Good luck talking to your primary Dr. I hope you get his full support. This board has been so helpful already to me and I have just been looking around for a few days! I hope to keep in touch with you.

Good luck and God Bless!

Tree

Thank you Tree. Hope all goes well with the insurance for you. I will keep you posted on my progress with the doctor. I have a feeling he will be very supportive as he has been in the past.

Hi tree, and tracyinks....I too am going through the hoop jumping routine. Luckily I only have to go through a 3 month dtr supervised plan for my insurance, along with a eval from a dietitican and a psych eval. So I'll be filing my info at the end of October, first of November. I feel closer to you two already, I live in Independence, Missouri, and I am going to Dr. Malley also. This site is great for support and idea's, but even cooler when you meet people that practically live right around the corner. Hope to talk to you all again......Susan:clap2:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
