Post op complications for ppl with low bmi vs ppl with high bmi

My sister has been doing clinicals and has noticed a trend with post op bariatric patients being readmitted for compilations. The one thing they've all had in common is that they all had a lower or the minimum bmi needed to qualify for surgery. Has anyone else heard this or experienced this?
