Salad....ever again? If so when?

Recommended Posts

I, along with others, am finally eating salad! I waited until I was at my 8 week mark, had it yesterday along with steamed tuna. Though I can still only manage to get down a few tablespoons at each meal, it was amazingly satisfying and worth the wait. You will be at this point soon enough!

Eat your greens as soon as you can tolerate them. Replace one meal every day with only veggies and your body will be able to lose weight faster. There are so many toxins released as fat cells break down and our bodies desperately need the nutrients found in vegetables, that many misguided surgeons tell patients to replace with "protein, "which is mostly going to be highly processed dairy products or meat. These add to the causes of inflammation and are hard on the organs working to flush all the toxins from the fat breaking down. Greens clean the body!

"Of course you can have salads again", is what my surgeon told me during one of the last appointments.

He simply cautioned me to eat the chicken or steak from the salad first....then the eggs and then onto the crunchy salad vegetables on it.

I believe this was at my 6 month appointment.

This is what my program says too. Per my program, you can start raw veggies starting at 8 weeks out. It may be several months more before you have much room for veggies, or your stomach tolerates them well.

I was cleared for salads at 5 weeks. (I was sleeved 6/7) I know all docs are different though. I've never had any issues. I agree with Dub though, Protein first:)

I was allowed at 3 months. I find that by the time I eat the Protein, I only have room for a few forkfuls of the lettuce and other veggies. I'm just happy to be able to eat salad again, I'm like you, I love salad

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
