Wow Im so happy I found this forum and topic!! Im a 30 BMI 5’ 3 170 and have dieted since I was 12. A few years ago I reached my highest weight ever of 229 but that was pregnant. my skin has been stretched out terrible. I lost 70lbs after losing the baby weight of 29lbs. So I got down to 130. But of course Im back up again. My pre diabetes keeps coming and going depending on my current weight. I honestly can’t handle it anymore. I eat 80 percent paleo not sugar or breads. No soda. I mean CLEAN!! But the scale keeps creeping up. I can’t work out like I use to do some health issues and joint pain. I don’t dare tell anyone because of the shame I feel about getting this done. I wanted to be a health coach and now Im having surgery. Its hard to explain. No one knows but my husband. So I have you guys to talk too. Im headed to Mexico next month to have surgery with Dr. Ponce at INT. Any advice on pre op and post op would be most appreciated. Im afraid of getting hypoglycemia after surgery. Also will I be able to work out hard like running and stay hydrated down the road? Im worried about throwing up and having acid reflex the rest of my life and regretting my decision. My doctor wants me to do 3 days before surgery of just yogurt and Water. Is that really necessary? Also 10 days liquids. That freaks me out!!

I just had my sleeve done on 20/JUL/2018 (last week) and was in a similar situation. I am 5'6" and weighed 190 when I scheduled my surgery, 187 (BMI: 30) when I had it done, and am now 180 one week post-op. I have struggled with binge-eating since I was young; my father basically being the perfect role model for B.E.D. I reached my highest weight after getting married and battling depression; 230 lbs. I managed to lose 40 lbs naturally and keep it off for 5 years, but I was still overweight since I should be somewhere between 130-150. My ultimate goal is to get to 130, but I would be happy with 145 if I have defined muscle mass. My other goal -that is just as important- would be eat healthy 95% of the time. I too assumed that the sleeve would force me to eat smaller portions (one of the reasons I gain weight so easily is because my satiety signals are late/absent). Have you had many binge phases post-op? How have you dealt with them?

@mtgirl Welcome glad to find someone in here with similar stats my BMI at start was 32 and I am very short 5’2. They put you in a diet before surgery to shrink the fat surrounding your liver so when they are in there doin their job it’s Easier for them to work around your stomach. I only did one week before the diet for Breakfast and lunch I will have a Protein Shake and for dinner I will have a regular meal. Dr was proud of my Diet he said I did a good job he showed me my liver he said it looked grate in my opinion I don’t think you need to do a very long diet but always listen to your doctor <3

So glad to hear all of these stories! Low BMI too...31. I’m 5’8” and204 lbs. My highest weight ever and boy does my body feel it! Plantar fasciitis, low energy, acid reflux, high blood pressure. Decided I’m too young to feel so old (I’m 53). Yo yo dieted since college and just can’t imagine going they that again. Having the ESG done 9/25 and cant wait! My husband is totally supportive(he had vsg a few years ago and has gained some back. Might help him reset his habits!). My daughter however thinks I’m crazy, that I don’t need it and will be malnourished. She thinks I barely eat anything as it is.....how wrong she is!!! Lol

I think I’ll do well with the diet and rules after wards. I tend to be a rule follower in many areas....other areas not so much!

Any tips for dealing with those who think it’s ridiculous to do surgery at a low BMI? Have yet to tell my parents and unsure of their reaction

Lynn I hate to shock you more , although I am an identical height, even after losing 34 pounds from my high point, I still weigh over 300 and I am , I'm sorry to say, old enough to be your mother. In truth my older living child code name R.D. for Rotten Daughter will be 50 January 3rd. Oh she has a perfectly lovely first name, in fact my late husband and I each had a friend with the exactly same name who lived many miles apart. So we both had chose that name for a future daughter. But she doesn't let us into her life and has pulled some dirty emotional tricks on Tomkitten (my son) myself and even her late daddy. I love her deeply but I don't like her attitudes and actions. She only gets in touch with me in months with an "R" or when she wants something, usually sympathy, occasionally 💰 and she lives within a half mile of my son and. wa

Oops to finish my sentence. And went and changed the spelling of our common middle name on Facebook. One of my friends saw it and asked Why? What answer could i,give? IDK and then changed the subject. I used to be on there but dropped it. All I was getting was nasty pictures of women bending over and weird friend requests, it just wasn't MY scene. Like I was still back in high school attitudes.

Hate to hear of all the troubles with your daughter. You can do everything possible to raise them right but in the end they are going to do what they’re going to do!
Facebook can be very annoying! I’m very picky of who u will “friend”. And if they get obnoxious....I drop them in a sec.
Glad to hear you are dropping the weight! What did you have done?

well I haven't had anything done, cut out carbs almost completely, deleated soda pop and sweetened drinks, went from regular, to 2% And now 1% m8lk. Doubt I'll go to,skim as of yet. Made 1% cottage cheese. my go- to for extra Protein. dropped regular cheese, that hurt more than giving up Snacks, I ❤Gouda, Swiss and Cheddar, the sharper the better. But I sacrificed for medical science and this Wednesday , I start a month of prediet to get ready for my Wonder Wednesday, my REBIRTHDAY on September 5th. Honestly I could wait until the 8th but I want the best results so I'll start early. 💊🙏🍶😰📝

That’s right I forgot it was 9/5! Nice work! I need to do a better job of adjusting my diet now. Kind of in the mind set of my “ last time for this meal”...lol. Not a good idea. For the ESG the dr only requires a 2 day liquid diet before hand so it’s kind of up to me to make some changes now.

Here’s another piece of the puzzle that will make this interesting.....my husband and I own a pizza shop and are just starting our food truck now! 🤣

Wow Lynn, you are both motivated and a business woman. My hat is offf to you .It has to say This is my JOB and that is for ME. You know it is rather weird, I did used like pizza and do still get it for,my,son. Last time we had any I tried a mini piece, must be the crust, it sat in my stomach. So you might think I'm awful or low classed. I order Marco's. I really don't care too much for Dominos flavor recipe, maybe familiar breeds contempt? Marco does have something that I do like. I order their meatball bake. A 5 by 7-8 inch pan, no crust, meatballs and Italian sausage chunks in a nice marinara sauce. And I usually eat 1/4 to 1/3 and freeze the rest for later. That way Tomkitten's feelings don't get bruised as he Chomps away.
I'm having some trouble this AM, woke up with an achy bladder. The last once or twice I have had a flare it doesn't feel my traditional cystitis, used to hurt do bad I would have to lie with a hot washcloth or hot water bottle between my legs. Instead of a rubber one I use an empty dishliquid bottle size. Now I routinely take Ditropan for spasms, was on Macrobid, prescription ran out, did an infection return, do another course or ask for a different anti- infective or is it just super concentrated this AM? used to chug a bottle down, now since I am supposed be deleting this action, multiple mini-sips?
I do have a very nice urologist, live that man, well as much as you can someone who spends time sitting between your thighs .
a Dr Clemens is part of a 3 tinkle. doctor practice. They cover my local hospital , St Ann's,in Westerville as well as the other Mount Carmels, Columbus State Street Downtown, East on East Broad near Reynoldsburg, Grove City and occasionally the Surgical Hospital at New Albany. HE,himself is in Mount Vernon Friday's and alternate Wednesdays, never met his partners Drs Henry and Brown. So. I will start drinking a bottle every hour, I loathe room temp Water but I do have a couple calorie free vaieties I can stand, Propel, G2 and Nestle Splash. In goes the Fluid, perhaps the, pain goes away. Already took,my Ditropan, just hurts like someone kicked me down there, no visible blood , no burning or cramping as soon as I go and that's how traditional cystitis always used to act. I just don't quite know?
No spicy food to trigger it over the weekend, IDK.

I think this is the thread I’ve been looking for. I’m struggling a little fight now. A lot of you know my story. I was a 30 BMI on surgery day. Reached my goal a couple days before three months out. Felt great. Then the Surgeon told me to hold on because I was likely to lose another 20 before my 1 year anniversary. Well, shoot, I’ve lost 7 in the last week! And, I’m not trying. In fact, I’m losing faster now than ever. I’m doing everything I’m supposed to except working out (I just had another, unrelated surgery and have stitches in my head).
I’ve tried upping calories by adding healthy foods when I can get then in...I lose more the more I eat!
Yesterday, I passed out in the shower. I have no idea what happened. I was surprised to find my husband lifting me out. More blood tests.
Again, I’m getting my Protein in, getting my liquids, take a comprehensive, prescribed Vitamin schedule...I’m following all the rules.
I think that starting with a low BMI has put me in a tough spot. I don’t know where another 20 pounds is going to come from. And if I lost 7 pounds this week, it sure seems like it’s going to be a whole lot more in the next 3/4 of a year.
I think I’m really frightened.
My surgeon just keeps saying, “it’s okay. We’ll get you back up here when your stomach can hold more.”
Meanwhile, my primary and psychologist (even my plastic surgeon) are saying, “You can’t afford to lose anymore weight. Yes you have extra skin/fat, but that’s not going anywhere. Health-wise you need to level out.” Btw, my psychologist is a sleeve vet and BariatricPal expert...just a coincidence. I’ve had her for years.
I think I’m just venting while I wait for test results. I’m a bit frightened. So used to being strong and energetic. Currently feeling weak and frail.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
