Hi! I was 183 on dr office scale consult day, 176 on hospital scale surgery day (Aug 11), then on my home scale hovering around 180 the last few days and 177 today. I think surgery day was artificially low -- it was afternoon after a day of nothing at all, not even Water, and a day before that of Clear Liquids only. This Friday the 19th I will be weighed in the surgeons office for the first time post op, at 8 days, but I keep thinking/feeling that the two week weigh in next week will be the one I can really gauge for weight loss (as opposed to just Water, or weirdness from surgery, etc). So we'll see! I'm very curious about this Friday and next week!

Good luck, NewAdventure! You're getting close!

I'm officially 1 month from my surgery date of 7/22/16!

Stats:

Height: 5'6"

HW: 180

Pre op: -7

SW: 173

CW: 155

Total Loss: -25!!!

Drs Goal: 150

My Goal: 130

I couldn't be happier. I've lost 18 pounds since surgery which is 4.5lbs per week! I know the high BMIers put up better numbers, but I'm thrilled! I'm 5 lbs from dr's goal and 25 from my goal.

I'm on soft foods until 8/31 then I go to a "normal" diet.

I haven't done a lot of experimenting with food, because once I got to purées, I wasn't hungry anymore.

What I'm eating:

Premier Protein shake - 30g

Fat free Fage greek yogurt w/ stevia - 18g

Premier Protein Shake - 30g

2 oz Salmon Sashimi - 12g

1/2c fat free cottage cheese - 10g

I'm trying to phase the second shake out with real food, but it's just so handy and I'm one of the few who love Protein Shakes.

I only get my 64oz in if I drink Vitamin Water zero. Water hits my stomach a little harder for some reason.

Still taking my ppi and Vitamins religiously.

I've never has GERD, and I thankfully still do not.

So far no loose skin or hair loss, but I think that will be down the road more if it happens.

So far, I looooove my sleeve!!!

Oh now I'm allowed to reply! Didnt realize I had to join the group and didnt know how! Feeling real smart right now.

LowBMISleever YAY! You sound so upbeat in your posts, and why wouldn't you? That is INCREDIBLE weight loss in a month...I just sent you a message saying this same stuff before I realized how to reply here, but I mean...can you imagine dieting for a month and losing 18, 25 lbs? Holy moly.

You look absolutely fantastic -- I hope you're proud and psyched.

Nutty question about the sashimi: do you cut it into teeny pieces and chew a million times ? puree it so it's more like a tartare? chop it like ceviche?

I'm not as far along as you -- about 11 pounds down total, 12 days post op -- and I have to tell myself "if you saw these were someone else's numbers you'd be so psyched; only regarding myself do I feel scared like I'm doing it wrong because I am not instantly 140 lbs. Long way of saying thank you for posting your healthy, VERY RAPID weight loss -- in some ways it's like looking in a mirror for me, you know?

Like you, I feel SO THRILLED that I got my sleeve. Wish it had occurred to me to do it while my weight was creeping up and up and up but at least I did it when I did. I've been messaging with one "low BMI" (I put in quotes sometimes because we are all low for this kind of surgery but not "low" as in underweight) pre-sleever who is nervous and apprehensive...it's so hard to convey to someone before the fact what a wonderful and empowering feeling it is to have real, exercisable control over what we eat, and to see the effects of that on the scale and (soon for me!) in our clothes.

GO LOWBMISLEEVER! You're doing so well and I love cheering you on in your journey!!

I agree. There's Biotin in your multi. You'll already be taking enough pills/supps. hair loss has more to do with getting your Protein and Vitamins in.

Great questions! OCC follows up with phone calls once a week after surgery and sends emails with videos and written instructions for each phase. They are GREAT about answering any questions within 24 hours. I haven't had a single complication by following their program. I have no loose skin, but I started at 180lbs 29 BMI. I still want to lose about 15 pounds, but I absolutely do not foresee any loose skin. I haven't lost any hair yet either. Will keep everyone updated on that. I do work out and I love it! You will feel so safe and taken care of at OCC :)

Hi! I was sleeved yesterday. I started at 210 (bmi 35, ht 5'5). I was 192.4 yesterday morning (bmi 32). It's great to be in a group with similar stats. (Also, I'm 44). I'm trying to not get my heart set on any losses, but it would be awesome to be down 30 pounds in two months!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
