Staying Motivated

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I was wondering how all of you keep motivated with exercising?

I love how working out makes me feel but I don't like the idea of doing it beforehand. I know so many people that say that it's normal but I go through slumps where the idea of working out makes me tired and no amount of reminding myself how I will feel after will convince me enough to just go do it.

I have a Fitbit and I compete with people at work during the week for steps, but they aren't very competitive and I can win the challenges by just doing 5k steps a day. Which doesn't seem near enough to qualify as exercise.

What are your thoughts? What keeps you going?

Thanks for reading :)

Typically, it's that competition with friends and family members that motivates me, but on days where you just don't feel like doing it, but know that you have to, I like to put in the headphones, turn on Netflix and before I know it, I'm a couple of episodes into whatever I'm watching and just about done before I know it!

It was tough at first because I went to the gym without a specific plan and would often find myself getting there and either wasting time looking for what I wanted to do or just walking around wasting time. Once it registered I was getting very little benefit from that, I built a regimented workout from workoutlabs.com and used that to keep me on track with the exercises I wanted to do and based on the equipment that was available to me. As I get farther into working out, I can increase the amounts or difficulties of the exercises. It's really been a great tool for me and they also have some free workouts to try, but the customization is worth the money....

The truth is that motivation is fleeting and you'll never have it consistent control of it - you need to find another way to get yourself to work out. I get it 'out of the way' in the mornings before work and try to see working out as brushing my teeth: it's something I have to do even if I don't really enjoy doing it. I also line up my favorite podcasts to listen to while I'm working out so I have something to look forward to.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
