So guys before surgery I had an obsession with white mochas and hot chocolate... I'm 2 weeks out of surgery tomorrow and I start my soft foods.. I know I can have milk now but is caffeine still an issue? Why was it an issue at all anyway just curious?? And am I cool to order a sugar free white mocha? Or sugar free hot chocolate?

❤️????

Somewhere prior to three months my surgeon allowed me to have coffee again.

It's something I enjoy daily.

They don't want you drinking coffee because of the caffeine, which is a diuretic. So if you're ok with Decaf - go for it! I mix coffee with my Protein shakes and for me, it makes them go down way easier!

Caffeine can also increase your risk of ulcers, on top of being a diuretic. My doctor has the absolutely not stance on it, but I've seen some doctors allow it, probably because it's better than drinking pop or juice and a lot of people are dependent on caffeine to function. I would ask my doctor/nut. :)

Or am I better off making it myself?

Starbucks sugar free products are made with Splenda. Splenda products are extremely poisonous to your body. I know coffee can be really bitter when not sweetened and sugar is a no no right now. Have you considered using stevia? I know it's not the easiest taste to get used to but I would rather use stevia than deal with the health complications of Splenda.

Here is a good article in regards to sweeteners after bariatric surgery.

I don't believe there is a sugar free white mocha either. I think you can get a sugar free mocha and I know you can get sugar free vanilla, caramel or cinnamon dolce.

Order regular Decaf coffee and ask them to add the sugar free vanilla pumps, add your vanilla or caramel premier Protein. It's really good.

There are companies that make white mocha sugar free Syrup (try Torani on Amazon). The white mocha latte from Starbucks is the highest calorie syrup they make. Even their skinny mocha still has higher fat and calories (I used to be a barista). You can always order a nonfat latte and then put your own syrup in to get the white mocha taste or you can experiment with vanilla, cinnamon dolce and hazelnut :)

Im a little over a year out and just only now feel comfortable drinking caffeine. I'll get a SF mocha from starbucks like, once a week. Its wonderful to have caffeine again, but it also can play havoc with blood sugar levels too as you're more sensitive to caffeine after surgery. It hits your system super fast (like alcohol does). My advice is to listen to your surgeon and use caution first time you get anything SF, as the SF stuff can make some folks dump or super gassy! Not fun to be gassy at work all day and then have a caffeine crash. Trust me!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
