August Bandsters How are you Doing So Far

Hi guys:

I was banded on august 13. I've been on liquids for the most part but yesterday my friend made me some slamming Soup and it had baby carrots, celery, cilantro, tomatoes for color and some chicken broth and dark meat chicken.

I have to admit I had a piece of that chicken. and today I had a hand full of raisinettes. I am not finding myself hungry but being that the past two days I am picking at stuff (including guacomole, yesterday as well), I am a bit depressed today. My band is not filled. I have not made an appointment but I will on Monday when I go to NYU for my esoph exam.

I sort of feel scared and i sort of feel like I am going to fail at this since I have been picking. No excuses. I just tested the waters and I feel bad about it. I didn't go over board but a hand full of raisins here, some chicken there..... you know what I mean?

How are you guys doing? Anyone experiencing the same thing?

Well, Val, at least you're in good company, and we all now know we're human, huh? Be kind to yourself and you'll get back there. :-)

I will confess, I did have one piece of caramel yesterday and some coffee with sugar in it this morning, but that is all I'll have that's off-list today. I figured out it was from being hungry on the liquids and not timing meals/snacks well, so I'll work on that today! Just got on the scale and I'm down to 114.5 (another 1.5 gone)! Love the liquid phases, don't you?

This morning I stopped and got my 6 month bloodwork done, so now I'll wait and see what they find. TEN little vials - crazy! I guess they run a lot of nutritional counts to make sure I'm getting the important stuff in. What amuses me is how "fasting" means nothing to me now after all the surgical hoops. Gosh - I have to wait on breakfast till 9am?? There's a tough one! LOL

We had -10 this morning, but the northern part of the state had -30 to -40, so I figure we were the lucky ones! How's everyone else doing this lovely bone-cold morning?

Hi Magnetismchick,

Good to hear from you and glad to hear you're doing well! I remember you. I know you don't post very often, but you definitely have a pretty unforgettable Avatar! :)

Val, I struggle with night hunger too. I often find that if I ignore it long enough, it just goes away. If I need to, I will snack on something small such as applesauce, sugar free pudding, a few nuts, 1/4 cup of cottage cheese, or an Edy's frozen juice bar. Whenever possible however, I try not to snack at night as it always seems to slow my weight loss........

Night time eating has been an issue for me especially since my mother passed. I always get hungry around the time I would have been talking to her on the phone. For the past few days, I have been going to bed to get far from the kitchen. I have to find something else to fill the void. The scale is moving, slowly but it is moving. Not changing my ticker until I am at my 6 month goal (even if it takes 7 months!).

Stayed home from work today because I didn't want to go out in the cold and snow!

Thanks for the encouragement.

Val

Val, it sounds like you're a bit lonely at night. Here's a thought - have you considered getting a pet? Do you have a friend or family member you can call and gab with? I know neither is a replacement for your mom, but it might help fill that gap.

I can't tell you how much difference it makes for me having my furchild come around for snuggles at night. He's a great listener too! Nothing like 63 lbs of warm fur-covered love to make you feel better!

I have a cat, two kids, a grandchild and a husband in the house. It is not external. I have to resolve some things in me. I am work full time, in classes and working on a dissertation. I need to make sure I get proper rest and slow down. Sometimes at night, I am so revved up. Food slows me down. My mom was my best friend, my biggest cheerleader, my trusted confidant and my wisest advisor. She helped to ground me. I need to figure out how to ground myself. Thanks for listening and offering suggestions.

Val

Hmmm - have you thought about journalling to her? Sounds strange, but you can write all the things you'd want to share with her. I know it's not the same, but it could help.

I hear you that you need to work through it - it's really healthy of you to see that! Glad to hear you have all the family around as well.

:-)

You know, I hadn't thought about journaling. That has worked for me in the past. I think I'll give it a try. Thanks!

Val

2.5 lbs for me this week! Would have been better but I made the mistake of baking for coworkers on Saturday. Next time, I'll bake Sunday night so it's not around the house all weekend! Better still, I won't bake at all!

  • 1 month later...

Hello everyone. It's been a while since I last posted. It seems we all have slowed posting somewhat since being banded. I'm very please with my weight loss thus far. I can now get into a size 18. I haven't seen that since my son was born 17 yrs ago. I must admit I kind of get tired of people asking me over and over what I am doing to lose weight. I don't tell them anything about the band (at least not yet). It is still a lifestyle change and I still have to watch what I eat. I basically fuel myself every 2-3 hrs. It's good to see everyone's progress and I wish you all continued success.

Hey Rumar - good to see you back! Congrats on hitting the 18s! It's a great feeling, isn't it!

Don't be a stranger now!

Whosya - You amaze me with every post!

So I did my workout yesterday. 1.5 hours cardio and weights combined. So I have a crazy nutritionist that has told me because I can't eat enough food to stop losing weight, and I refuse to start eating crappy foods, that she wants me to slow down on the exercise. So I will agree to only do 4 days a week now. We will see how that affects my challenge. I may have to drop it by 5 hous and only do 20 hours a month. I had a huge rant on another board so if anyone wants to see what she said to me, let me know and you too can feel my frustration!

Whosyadaddy,

you are such an inspiration!! I was banded on 08/24/07 and I am down a total of 109.4lbs.

Start weight 298.2, size 22

Current weight 188.8, size 8 or 10 (depending on the brand of jeans)

I am so glad to see that everyone is doing so well!
