Need advice - luncheon Sunday - What do I do?

Recommended Posts

I was in a situation like that and I had the option of grilled chicken.. Chew chew chew and then sip some Water. Subtly mix it in your mouth so it becomes similar to the consistency of Soup and then slowly swallow.

You can do that with most of the other foods too if you absolutely have to. Just make sure you chew well.

English is my 6th language so forgive me if my sentences don't make any sense at times!

Well, I'm back from the luncheon and I think I did fine. Thanks to all of you! Your variety of suggestions was very helpful! I decided not to eat before I went. They had fried chicken, of course! (That's what we eat in the south!!) I put a chicken leg on my plate, one spoon of potato salad, and one spoon of macaroni and cheese. BUT, I didn't eat any of the potato salad or macaroni and cheese which are two of my faves! I just put them on my plate so it wouldn't look so empty. I pulled the skin off of the chicken leg and had a few bites of the chicken and chewed very well. Nobody seemed to noticed that I didn't eat much, so I was relieved. But, everybody kept trying to get me to have some dessert. I told them I was too full and that I might have some in a bit, but I never did. All in all, I'm proud of myself! Especially for avoiding the deserts!!! It's been about two hours ago, so I think my stomach is going to be okay with that little bit of meat that I ate. :)

THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!

@@healthier&happier4life That's fantastic! You did great and isn't it hilarious that nobody really notices this stuff? Everyone is always worried about their own stuff. I'm glad it worked out for you and I'm glad you went so now you know it can be done and can be very social without worrying.

@@esskay77 Thank you! Yeah, I guess I just tried to stress myself about something that wasn't necessary! And, yes.. Now I know that I can handle the social situations!

No! Do not eat anything you shouldn't yet! Curious why you don't want anyone to know..? Nothing to be ashamed of... You are working to get healthier aren't you? You could say you had dental work done (that happened to me during my pre-op fast ) and I just drank while they ate.

Heck girl, my dad died 5 days after my surgery. I packed a small cooler with my Protein, my waters, teas, and little jigger to measure and carried on during his wake. Since it's done, no one can talk u out of the surgery now, right? I didn't tell many folks ahead of time, b/c I didn't want to hear all the death and mayhem stories that people are only to happy to share with you. Be proud you are taking control of your life, honey!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
