Hi everyone,

Banded on the 4th. Today I have very little pain. I had a bad time at first. The pain meds they send you home with had me vomiting for 5 hours on saturday, so I needed to get by with no pain meds. I feel so full all the time. I can only get down one broth and one Jello a day. Doctor says it's because i'm still all swollen he says it will get better. Good luck to all the new banders.

Cheri,

Sorry you are having some trouble. I was also banded on the 4th and still have some swelling. I can get down all liquids and haven't been hungry much yet. I guess I was lucky that I only used my pain meds for 2 days before I didn't need them. I still get some pain but can live with it. Take care and I hope you feel better soon.

Lafs,

Thank you. I'm glad you didn't have any probelms. I do feel 100 percent better right now. Very little pain and actually able to sleep on my left side again. It will all be worth it in the end. My doctor also told me I had a hernia that he fixed while he did the lapband, Who knew? I didn't know I had one.

I was banded on the 5th and had a hernia repair as well at the same time. I feel like I have a fist in my chest. I can hardly get fluids down. I know I would feel better if I just could get in enough nutrition. Not much pain otherwise. Still have gas pains at time. I woke up the last 2 nights with a tiny amount of Fluid coming up into my throat that had me retching quite badly. I am a bit worried.

Just had my first appointment with the surgeon who has confirmed my surgery date as 31st October :whoo:. Will see the nurse about dietary requirements on 16th, and then start 2 week pre-op diet the following day.

I am so excited now it has been confirmed, but very nervous too. The surgeon weighed me in at 110kg and I am aiming to get down to about 70kg which he says is very achievable. He seemed really nice.

Hugs to everyone recovering, and those waiting.

Love Kathryn

hi Kathyn! Looks like we'll be banded on the same day. The hospital called today to schedule my pre-op tests for the 19th. My surgeon does not require a special pre-op diet, but I am trying to do my best anyway...no Snacks between meals, no carbs, eat slowly, chew well, and no drinks with meals. Then at nite I don't do as well, but still better than I would ordinarily do.

Cheri and Lafs, I'm so relieved that you both are doing better!!!!!!! and.......thanks sooooooo much for posting, you're experience is helping me to prepare myself. I feel a little less anxious when the unknown becomes the known. thanks again...warmest wishes to you for a speedy mend!

Kelly, I did go to the support group last night. It was my first one with just all banders. The people there were very supportive, and I'm glad I went. There were a few scary stories, but even with that everyone seamed glad they did it. You'll have to come next month. Do you have a surgery date?

Karen, yeah, I do feel better, except for my:sick I have at the moment. Going to the support group helped, but mostly just making my mind up (again) and having great support. Also, I lost 4 pounds this week. That always helps. I'm not even scared of the surgery anymore. The thing that worries me most right now is the p.bing. I really hope I don't do that much. Oh well, It's always something, right? How's everything with you?

they will be able to tell when they go in, the only other way is by ultrasound, but I doubt that will happen before your surgery. They like the liver to shrink a bit to get it out of the way, because they need to get to the top of the stomach, which is basically underneath the liver. If the weight of it is reduced it can alleiviate bruising etc. good luck - K

The morning of the surgery I weighed 223 pounds, I started at 236, 13 pounds yes...

I also had a hearnia repaired. Now to get the gas out.

Oh, I was banded on the 10th.

Hello Everyone,

Well, I'm now a band mom! Surgery at 8:45 this morning and woke with no pain except for a little gas pain in my chest. A brief walk and pain meds helped with that and no other pain since. Have to keep my compression stockings on for a day or two and get up and walk every hour or so for blood clots.

I was still hungry when I woke up (I was told I wouldn't be), but SF pops, Jello, and broth is helping.

I had lost 10 pounds in two weeks from the pre-op diet and dr said my liver was in good shape when he went in. No hiatal hernia to repair, which I was glad to hear.

Will keep you posted on progress and good luck to those of you with surgery tomorrow!

Sue

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
