So I had my preop appointment yesterday where they told me that I'll have to pay my hospital bill of $1,083 the morning of surgery (next Thursday). I've met my deductible and that's my 20% payment. I was not at all expecting to have to pay this at once! They said it's due, but do you think they'll be able to do a payment plan? Of course I'll have to ask when I get there, but is it normal to have to pay your hospital bill in advance? I figured most people get billed afterward and then pay in full or make payments.

I know I had to pay mine up front, I think it is pretty normal.

I had to pay my share up front but yikes. I was told at my first appointment an estimate not at the end!

When they told me my share, I asked if I could do a payment plan. They assured me that once I got the bill I could call and set it up. If I were you, I'd go ahead and call them and ask.

Don't wait. You don't want a surprise or anxiety over it for sure you'll have more than enough to deal with.

So we have the money, but we'd rather pay it monthly over a year or less because we've taken a bit out of savings as it is with paying the doctor and all my required preop visits. I'll call Tuesday and find out!
