Hey everyone? How is everyone doing? Blessed and doing great I pray. Well my question is how long was your hospital stay with your procedures? I supposed to be having gastric bypass surgery but they only put a one night hospital stay. I thought , well assumed that the gastric sleeve procedure is one night while the gastric bypass was two? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks; -)

My surgeon's usual rule is 2 nights for either sleeve or bypass. He's pretty conservative though. He won't let you out of the hospital until you are meeting your Fluid and Protein daily goals.

My dr plans 2 nights for bypass but I was doing well enough that she sent me home after 1 night. I was home in just over 24 hours from surgery!

I stayed 5 days ???? But they were having trouble controlling my pain and I was very nauseous and couldn't drink anything so I stayed extra days.

I'm two weeks out today. I stayed two nights. I had severe nausea and vomiting. Pain wasn't controlled well by the meds. Normally it is a one night stay with my surgeon. I had VSG.

Mine said plan for two nights but when I received the insurance paperwork it only said one. I talked to the coordinator/nurse to clarify and she reassured me that they extend it if the doctor feels it's necessary but typically only authorize one day at a time.

That said, I was home the next day. I had the sleeve.

I had the sleeve on 6/6. Was supposed to stay one night, but ended up staying three due to a small complication. My esophagus swelled up and I was having trouble getting liquids down and gas out. Very painful, and I was also having dry heaves. They did a swallow study the day after my surgery and found the problem. Treatment was simple with steroids, but my surgeon wanted to be sure I was well past the vomiting and pain before sending me home. I've been doing fine since then.

I had the same complication as Lily mentioned above and the same treatment (steroids) but it didn't extend my stay because the plan had always been a 3 day stay so they were able to get it under control within that time :)

That's true plus I hate hospitals. I once hemorrhaged after delivering a 10lb baby girl and I pretended to be able to walk by holding on to my husband for dear life just so that I could go home[emoji6]

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
