Been Givin the run around for 2 years in August. I've been through 1 and a half years of tests. Everything you could imagine, not fun. My next appointment is the 3erd of August. If I don't get a surgery date then. I will probably go to Mexico. Witch is a little bit scary, but something needs to happen soon. I'm getting bigger every day. I have been researching on the Internet for days, looking at Mexico's bariatric clinic & doctors reviews. Of course everyone says they are great. I would love to hear from other people and their experiences, good and bad. I am going to have the gastric sleeve. I can't afford the self pay here in the US ,but Mexico's self pay is possible. Please tell me of your experiences, with the doctor's the hospital's and the after care. I need to hear about others experience's, so I can make the right decision. Please help if you can? And thank you.

Your insurance won't pay for it? I haven't had my surgery yet but I am almost completely sure mine will cover at least 85%.

I understand that you're eager to lose weight. Reading between the lines, however, it seems that you may not have demonstrated a wish to lose weight sufficiently to the bariatric practice or your insurance company. For example, you say you've been gaining weight in the two years. That's very different from, if not losing, just staying the same. It's important that those who make the decisions for you (insurance and surgeon) see that you understand what your part is in losing weight after surgery.

Before you run off to Mexico, I think you would do yourself a great service by examining whether you truly have been given the run-around or if you have a part in the process taking so unusually long.

What do you mean by being given the run around?

Have you had medical reasons for delays and testing?

Is it because of insurance requirements?

I don't understand why you feel you've been given the run around - are the tests just the normal bloodwork or do they suspect a medical problem that makes you not a good candidate for surgery?

I had to wait a year while they investigated an ongoing WBC, but until they felt like it was medically safe I just had to be patient.

Thank you Inner Surfer Girls, for not being a B. I'm just feeling defeated, I lost the weight my doctor as me to over a year ago. I have been jumping threw hoops test after test for almost a year. I don't know why he didn't do all the tests while I was loosing the weight instead of waiting till I gained the weight back. What do you think about Mexico? I had some delays due to financing issues and even had to repeat some testing because the window had passed, so I know how frustrating it can be. In the end, everything worked out for the best.

Do you know what it would take to get a surgery date? Are you required to lose a certain amount of weight? Are you working with a NUT?

I know that many people have had success by going to Mexico, but if your delays have been because of health reasons then I would encourage you to resolve those before you pursue the idea of going to Mexico.

You want to be as healthy as possible going into surgery whatever you decide.

The doctor said I have to lose the weight again. He also said he would not be apposed to me using diet pills, but would not prescribed them. He told me I would have to get my general practitioners to prescribe them. She said that they do not prescribe diet pills. So I made a appointment with a local weight loss clinic, they gave me 1 months worth off Phendimetrazine pills. I go back for another month of pills on the 14th. I have lost 14lb on the pills, the diet doctor has been monitoring my blood pressure. He said it was all good. I have 1 1/2 monthso till I see my bariatric surgeon again. Wish me luck. Personally, I am not a fan of diet pills, but as long as you are being supervised by your doctor you should be ok for a short time.

I highly recommend that you:

Wean yourself off of carbonation (including diet pop) and caffeine;

Drink a ton of Water (at LEAST 64 oz. but aim for more);

Take your vitamins;

Focus on eating Protein and non-starchy vegetables;

occasionally substitute a Protein shake for a meal; and

Exercise.

Well, my friend, slow and steady wins the day every time. The best prep for WLS is a thorough, and thoughtful one--dotting every "i" and crossing every "t". Five years from now you will be sooo glorious satisfied that you did so. I promise.

I also would not recommend you going to Mexico. You, like myself sound like someone that needs some one on one support and guidance along the entire path of your WLS journey.

Talking , talking and then doing some more talking helps---when with every talk we pick up just one little bit of information.

WLS is no "walk in the park" for most of us. It is a life long journey. What is up to us is how we choose to travel down our WLS path.

For me, I had to learn to listen to my sleeve. It will always guide me WHEN I take the time to listen to eat. I've learned to work WITH my sleeve and not against it. I no longer push its boundaries and therefore making it "cranky". Whenever I did that, I learned that my sleeve can be a bit vengeful, because whenever I would eat too fast or too much and made it angry, it had/has a way of "throwing it back in my face".--and right back out!

Keep posting. There is always a member here to talk with. We want to hear how your journey is coming along and hopefully help you around the twists and turns.
