Is your surgery a secret?

Recommended Posts

I'm finished all my pre op duties for my insurance and I'm waiting on the approval! (Yay)!! But I'm in a little dilemma. I haven't told anyone about my surgery except my mom, fiance, and one friend months ago.

Did you tell anyone? I don't know why I'm not. I think I may be in denial about needing the surgery and I feel upset I couldn't lose the weight without this tool.

Also, I've been up at night trying to figure out what I'm going to tell the people at my work when I have to leave for 1-3 weeks...

Just feeling stressed...

I am a nurse who works in the same building (not the same floor) as the bariatric surgery unit. Think I can get in and out of there without being spotted? Have only worked there about 3 years part-time, so hoping I can pull this off! lol!

I actually work on a bariatric unit. Since I only need to be off for about 2 weeks I will be ok. Still not telling them. Haters. Also the doctors won't see a pt they didn't work on.

The only person in my life that knows is my husband. I told work that I had a GI issue that needed repair - sort of true. I don't want to hear other people's opinion - they haven't walked in my shoes. This is my life - my body - and my choice. When people comment on my weight loss I genuinely thank them. When they ask how - I say low carb, low fat and high Protein. It's the truth. They all see me drink my Premier Protein or GNC shake and think nothing of it. I've even shared one or two with a hungry co-worker.

My mother knows, 2 of my best friends and my sons father....other than that I really don't feel it is anyone's business....I am not ashamed I got surgery that is just me.....and it is coming off slow enough that no one questioned it yet.

My husband, mom, and brother know. I've also told work because my boss had RNY and I asked her all about it. She lead me in the right direction. I just don't want people looking at me like I'm some kind of failure for not trying hard enough. I've been yoyo dieting since I was 11! I'm 27. Enough is enough. I'm doing this for me and I don't want the negative impact of others thoughts/feelings/words to intervene on my weight lose journey. :)

Taraisthebest:

I havent told anyone. Not even my family because i know once i tell my mom, she'll tell everyone and i dont want to have to answer any questions. My bmi is 42. I weigh 288 and my goal is 145. Thats always been my weight until i found out i had MS and had to start these steroids. Ive had to stop them because they add weight on me so now im in pain because i need to get this weight off so bad.

Im not telling anyone because its nobody's business. I started the gym a month ago. I havent gotten my surgery dATE YET but i finally see the dr next week to finally make up my mind. At first i wanted to do the bypass but i think the sleeve is going to be the healthiest for me. All my drs have told me to go for the sleeve because if im keeping to my diet and gym, i will lose the weight the healthiest way. But good luck with you

My surgery WAS a secret. Made the mistake of telling a few co workers. I left work yesterday for surgery on Monday and found out one of them told the whole office! Out of respect one of them called me to let me know. She preceded to tell me how most of them felt I wasn't fat. And they didn't understand why I'm having it??? I'm 5'3, 230 lbs...clearly over weight. Just trying to stay positive for Monday. This pre-op diet is horrible. I slipped and had a piece of turkey yesterday. I was soooo hungry and not to mention upset. Monday can't come fast enough!

So I told my Mom which I kinda regret because of course I did get a bunch of grief from her. With that being said, as of right now the only 2 that know is my Hubby and Mom. I dont need the negativity at this time when I should excited about this and preparing myself. My family are pretty healthy and don't believe in wls because according to them its unecessary and all you need is a GF diet!!!! ugh....definitely not telling anyone at work, told the bosses I was having surgery, Point. Blank.

I'm telling my Mom 2 weeks before surgery so she can 1. get everything off her chest and 2. prepare herself because I AM GOING TO HAVE IT.

I've been doing a soft roll out, so to speak. I've told my bosses, and a few people at my work - a couple friends. I've really only told people I knew would be supportive. I had one negative reaction....a friend that looked me straight in the eye and said "that surgery kills people". I looked straight back and said "I'll die without it".

I haven't told my mom yet. She's 88 - and I am not sure how she'd handle it...so I'll tell her closer to a surgery date this fall.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
