So I'm getting two different stories from my care nurse and my nurse practictioner.. the NP suggests being able to finish a shake in about 30 minutes.. keep meals - be they solid or liquid to a set period of time. Meanwhile, the nurse coorinator who's been in the program said her experience was that usually.. especially in the beginning with so much pain and swelling, patients are constantly sipping all of the time to come even close to the goals set for us... Which is right -.- ?

It doesn't really matter about how long.... as long as you meet your goals.

Everyone is different.. do what feels comfort for you.

Some people work better on a schedule.. some work better sipping.

For me, i would sip constantly till i felt i had enough, would take a break.. and continue the cycle.

Don't over think it... it will only stress you out... trust your body.. it will tell you what its comfortable with.

liquids don't trigger restriction, they go right through your stomach. There is no reason to limit them to 30 minutes. If you do that the first 6 weeks you will never get your Protein in.

Sip fluids all day.

Okay so if I sip liquids all of the time is it normal to be sipping but feel totally and completely -full-?

I feel the same way. I can sip all day but I can really get anything else in. I can eat some Jello here and there but nothing more. I had surgery on May 31st. Nausea is killing me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
