Small Appliances and Kitchen Gadgets

Recommended Posts

Today my old blender decided it won't be going on this weight loss journey with me.... I'm thinking of getting a Ninja to replace it, but that got me wondering - what small appliances and kitchen gadgets do you find to be particularly helpful with your post-surgery food prep?

My mainly-used appliances are: my nutribullet, my little food scale, and my crock pot. :) I also use measuring cups multiple times a day, so I would recommend getting a durable glass set, and plan to love them for a long time.

I am 20 months out and still use my scale and measuring cups all the time! I also often use my nutibullet.

I have a small kitchenette (no oven or stove) so I use a lot of gadgets. Mostly: microwave, toaster oven, crock pot, and of course my food scale.

I have an egg cooker, panini press/grill, electric skillet, and rice cooker that I use less often, mostly because of lack of counter space.

The rice cooker is great for steaming vegetables, fish, etc.

Thanks for your recommendations! I've got a crock pot, scale and measuring instruments and I added a three tiered food steamer to my wedding registry.

My surgery is in five days and I can't wait to be able to cook again!

I have a great little gadget that I use once or twice a week...it's a Veggetti. It spiralizes veggies for faux veggie "pasta". I got it at Bed Bath & Beyond for $10-awesome!!! I ate off the spiralized menu at Houlihan's and loved the dish so much, I went out looking for my own tool. I don't recommend much, but this I truly love and use, plus it's very inexpensive.

Happy cooking & best of luck on your journey!

Veggetti is excellent

I use my Ninja every day to make a Protein Shake to take to work with me. I often make one for my granddaughter to have for Breakfast too. My vegetti gets used at least once a week to make zoodles to eat with spaghetti sauce and parmesan. I use my food scale when I need to get an exact amount. 1-1/2 oz of meat can be tricky to eye-ball. I also use small plates and bowls which helps me control the amount of food I take to eat. Most of the time I still can't finish what's on the small plate. At first I used baby spoons but that quickly became annoying. I do use a salad fork instead of a dinner form. All these little things help trick the mind into being satisfied with eating less.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
