I was sleeved 3/28. For the last week i have cut my calories in half. I was about 500 a day and now im around 200. I cut out my Protein Shake, which basically is all the Protein i was getting. I got sick with a cold last week and since then i am just not hungry and i cant take more than a couple sips of the shake. The one good thing is that now my mouth is dry all the time so im getting all my fluids in. My weight loss has been back to a pound a day as well since i havent had the shakes. However, im obviously nervous that this is prob bad for my body and im not sure what could happen or what to do. Has anyone experienced this? Any support or help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Trouble? Yes. You are starving yourself. You should be able to easily reach 1000 calories by now, 800 at a minimum. If you really can't force more nutrition, then I strongly urge you to see a doctor. Unless you are extremely overweight, a pound a day is a dangerous rate of weightloss. Please seek medical help!

@gsleeve822... At two months out from surgery your diet should be more varied... shakes shouldn't be the main source of Protein... Are you having food sources of Protein such as ground turkey, tuna, cheese, yogurt, etc?... 2 months of shakes all day everyday would turn anybody off eating... I was told around 3 weeks after surgery, to be moving away from shakes and get protein from real food... Good luck

Are you able to eat soft Protein yet like eggs, fish, yogurt.. Etc.? Are you getting physically sick from eating or has your appetite just disappeared?

I know from my experience I didn't have an appetite at all for the first six months. Sometimes the sight or smell of food would make me nauseous. However, food is fuel for our bodies and I began to look at food in that manner. I logged all my intake on an app called My fitness pal, that helped keep me accountable to my protein and Vitamin levels.

Try to get your protein in and up your calories if possible. I think I was eating about 500-800 calories as day a few months out. It is hard in the beginning because you are essentially learning to eat again. Try a variety of foods, you might be surprised at the things you like. I used to hate eggs pre op but now I love them. Used to love tuna- now it gives me heartburn.

It's like one big experiment- but you just have to keep trying and eventually it all fall into place. Check out some Bariatric recipes/ideas and branch out. One good website is called "The world according to egg face". She has some great ideas.

Yes, what you are doing is very bad for your body. You should be getting way more calories...800 at least. You should be eating seafood, fish, chicken, turkey, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, Refried Beans, and soft cooked veggies, even some fruit. Really, you should be able to eat anything at this point except maybe seeds, nuts and skins. The shakes are fine, but they don't need to be your only source of Protein at this point.

And it doesn't matter if you aren't hungry, you must eat anyways. Consider it a prescription just like an antibiotic or blood pressure medication or any other drug that you must take in order get well. You should also be taking your Vitamins....a multi, B12, Calcium, Iron and D3. Again, just part of your "prescription for health". Were you told about these?

You are starving yourself, causing malnutrition, which is probably why you are sick. BTW, what hack did you goto in Mexico that didn't provide you with postop nutritional information? Thats ridiculous. I went to Mexico, too, and got a huge folder of guidelines. They even have a staff dietician I could call anytime with questions. At the very least, you will need followup with your PCP for bloodwork that should be done at 3,6,12 months and then at least annually forever.

@@GSleeve822 This is very dangerous. You will end up very sick - your body needs Protein to heal and function. You need calories. I strongly encourage you to find a Dr and a Psychologist here ASAP. It sounds like you're on the verge or already into a serious eating disorder. Anorexia is just as bad as Obesity. Please get help!

@@GSleeve822 - you need to get Protein and at bare minimum 800 calories in your diet or you will be in the ER or hospital in the near future for multiple medical issues.

Seek medical attention TODAY with your local doctor, and/or a walk in clinic, is my advice.

Whether you feel like it or not you HAVE to get in enough Fluid and protein. That means AT LEAST 64 oz of Fluid and (for me) 100 grams of protein. I don't really track calories, but to me, anything under 1000 calories is too low. Arbitrarily cutting your calories is the worst thing you can do.

Protein and fluids are critical for healing, weight loss, and health/survival. Getting dehydrated is extremely dangerous in the short term. Not getting enough protein is extremely dangerous over time.

Please do everything you can to get in ALL of your fluids and protein. Call your NUT and call your doctor if you can't.

Yes, you are starving yourself at 200 calories/day.

Your body is going to get Protein one way or another. If you don't provide it enough Protein, it will obtain it from your muscles.

You need to also drink enough liquids every day too.

I'll let someone with medical experience chime in, but IMHO you are heading down the path for some serious health issues at this rate.

If you were provided any nutritional counseling or information on the post-surgery diet phases, search for them online from reputable sources. Maybe you can meet with a nutritionist?

You need to act on this promptly! I wish you well.

1000 calories a day? That seems like a lot. Tomorrow is my 8 weeks since surgery. People say snacking is really bad for us, but thats the only way i could imagine having more calories. I was getting 500 a day bc of the shake. With the limited amount i can eat diring 3 meals a day, it is just not possible.

I do have the baby bell mini cheese as a meal, and yogurt yes. I have protein in my meals but there are only 3 meals and they are obviously very small.

grazing all day is bad. to have small meals and preplanned Snacks is not bad, it is necessary when you are only able to eat a small amount at a time.

once you are 3-4 months, or at least by 6 months you should be able to eat enough at a meal that you don't need the Snacks all the time. I am working away from the snacks and I am just over 3 months out.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
