@@Inner Surfer Girl I really hated OA. Maybe I need to find a different meeting. The one I went to was too huggy, lol

Check out www.smartrecovery.org it is an alternative to the typical 12-step recovery programs, It has bases in cognitive behavioral therapy and treats addiction as a behavior that you have the power to change, rather than treating you like a victim of a disease. It is quite empowering and may appeal to your controlling personality. Offers Online and in person meetings, online forums and the handbook to get started or at least see if it's for you is only $8.

LOL I don't really like hugs from strangers... I'm weird like that.

Me neither! Which is funny because I am very huggy with my family and friends.

@@her1981 i have found a pretty good way to eat whatever i want tho my struggle is actually getting enough to eat cuz i'm totally off food. anyways i can make pizza, spaghetti, enchiladas, fried rice, brownies etc. i just make sure it's got no carbs and no sugar. try cauliflower fried rice or pizza with cauliflower crust, or spaghetti squash lasagna. i also make a killer low carb brownie with almond flour and frosting. it's all possible if you're willing to be creative. also, you need more Protein if you're hungry all the time. Protein keeps you from feeling starved. good luck mama! you got this!

@@pr_pitbullgrl Luckily I don't really have a sweet tooth, so I'm good with a sugar free fudgecicle when I want something sweet. I don't like rice and I don't care much for Pasta, so it's been really easy to go without that kind of stuff. Now, tortillas, chips, and potatoes are another story. I've learned to get along without them, but I do have a little on holidays. Outside of that, I'm super low carb day in and day out. If we have pizza, I just eat the tops, I like making stuff with zoodles... I feel like my eating is fine. I'd just like the scale to cooperate so I can stop obsessing about the numbers/calories. It's like I don't trust myself...

@@pr_pitbullgrl Yes, but not at much as I should. I walk a lot (about 45 minutes to an hour daily), but I need to incorporate more resistance training. I haven't done it in about 2 months... (I had to have surgery to remove kidney stones last month and have been on restriction. I got cleared for regular activity 2 weeks ago but I still had pain.) I'm gonna give it a go tonight, though.

Congrats on your loss as well!! 10 pounds to goal is awesome!

Perhaps, you could try eating disorders anonymous. I am a therapist and found OA to be contributing to disordered eating, especially if you want control all the time. EDA focus was different, just an option. However, there aren't a lot of meetings, but you can do online. From what I've read posted, I concur with the many others on here, a good therapist is warranted. Eating disorders are rarely about the actual food, but are often about the emotions behind it.....the ones we don't or can't deal with on our own.

I have not been Sleeved yet, but in general, I notice that I am a starving lunatic on low-calories (and then crash and burn), but on lower carb (like 40 grams a day) and no calorie counting I am not starving and lose some weight.

Sounds like you are not "Obsessed" but hungry!

@@Anna Nim I am hungry! :(

Quite often in fact. I never really got a huge reduction in hunger. It did decrease temporarily, but it's back!!

I have found that sites like MY FITNESS PAL are indispensable !!! You absolutely MUST accurately log your food & exercise . I was quite successful in my approach to loosing weight. If you tell the absolute truth on Protein, calories, and exercise, I find it hard to believe it physically possible to stall at your weight with the calories claimed to consume. I consume 1200 to 1500 cal. per day, walk an hour or two a day, consume 100 to 140 grams of Protein a day and I'm 62 years old and...well look at my banner to see my success and I lost nearly all my weight in the first year.

Honest consumption and exercise logging will tell the truth, physics don't fib :)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
