Hi guys, I just had surgery on the 20th. I'm down 20th pounds in these 6 days. I'm REALLY struggling with getting fluids/protein/vitamins in. The chewable stuff they gave me... make want to gag from the chalky texture. I haven't been getting them down. I burp tree flavor all day once I take them. Today, im.jist really weak feeling. Last night my shower was a chore. My heart rate increases from it, to keep my hands up to wash my hair was very difficult. Today, very time I get up and around to do anything... including my walking, my pulse goes up to or over 100, from the normal I'm the 60s.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I am considering using a spoon of Greek yogurt to crush my Vitamins in to swallow. I'm scared.

Try to relax. At this point, liquids are the most important thing. You have to stay hydrated. The rest of it will come with time. As far as the Vitamins, the really chalky ones are usually the Calcium citrate. I tried a half dozen different things before I got something I could handle. I use these: http://www.amazon.com/Rainbow-Light-Wellness-Calcium-Citrate/dp/B0127WS6H2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00

Gummies would probably be the best solution period. The doctors office told me I "have" to use their brands. I can see from all the varieties people use, that's not really true. I may have to try this, soon. Thanks!

Hydrate - that's most important! Also - are you on any blood pressure meds? If so - they may need to be changed.

No I am not on any medications. I figure I'm probably not getting enough fluids. Possibly nutrients as well. I seriously want to puke over the ones they gave me. So nasty!

Thanks. They told me I can have Popsicles yet. I think I'm going to try though. broth, I'm completely turned off by. I have some powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury brand chicken Soup, that I made with broth when I got home. It was okay until I fell asleep. I woke up and took a drink without hesitation, it was cold. And for whatever reason... ugh... never again! Even washing my shaker cup out and smelling it, made me gross out.

Mio has a Mio Fit line that has electrolytes and they have been a life saver for me. Once I was less dehydrated it was easier to keep fluids down. There are a lot of different flavors. You may like one better than another. Crystal light has some good flavors too but they don't have the electrolytes.

Also, Swanson has flavored broths. They have a tortilla Soup flavor infused broth that you could try, if it sounds good. The other flavor infused broth I found had too much sugar in it. For me the broths had to be warm, otherwise I couldn't do it.

Lots and lots of small sips.

When can you have the sugar free Popsicles?

One suggestion I remember was to get 4 2 oz shot glasses. Fill them up and drink one every 15 minutes. Refill them at the beginning of the next hour. Maybe breaking it down will help?

Way to go in 20lbs!!! Hang in there.

I think thy said after 2 weeks. I notice everyone else gets them right after though. They also told me everything had to be room temp. Everything. It makes all of it, very unappealing. I appreciate the tips :) I'm having my husband pick me up something with some electrolytes here in about an hour. I just am tired of all the sweet flavors. It's crazy how much the surgery changes your tastes and desires.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
