I'm 6 days away from surgery & scared as heck!

Recommended Posts

Ok so I'm sorry to any guys in here and this is prob tmi but were any of you on your monthly cycle for surgery? At my pre-op they told me to stop my birth control b/c it could cause blood clots. But then said its ok if that starts my cycle. Cmon. Why didn't you tell me this a month ago so my body would get used to it. Of course I started yesterday (again) with cramps & all. It's heavy today so I doubt it stops overnight. I'm more nervous about this than the actual surgical procedure. Yuck!

@@girl4god77,

Good luck! It’s so normal to be nervous, but you’re ready for this! You worked hard. You researched your decision, found a surgeon, and went through the pre-op approval process.

You completed the pre-op diet, which is HUGE! It shows you can follow the meal plan and you’re truly motivated to make this work.

Now, it’s out of your hands. All you have to do is get yourself to the hospital and the professionals will take over from there. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Well surgery went great on Monday I did so well in the hospital they sent me home yesterday. Home is rough mostly b/c you don't have the hospital bed (it's painful getting out of bed even with help.) But I'm on day 2, sip sip sipping & walking & sleeping as much as I can.

You are doing great! If the bed is difficult for you, perhaps you could sleep on the sofa or a recliner for the next few days? Might be a bit easier. I had difficulty getting in and out of my hospital bed, so I ended up sleeping on the recliner in the hospital room. Once home, I did sleep in bed, but the first week it was a bit uncomfortable for me because I'm a stomach sleeper and of course couldn't do that. After that first week I found a position that was comfortable and that's all she wrote! I'm 3 weeks out and already sleeping back on my stomach!

Every day will be a bit better than the day before. When you hit 3 weeks, you will feel almost like nothing was done, except you will notice you are losing weight. It's wonderful. Follow the rules to the letter and you will be wonderful!

Thanks for that. Unfortunately we don't have a recliner and our couches are very low. Right now I'm sitting up on pillows on the couch which is basically for "eating" but not comfy. Yet I can get up by myself. I slept great in my bed it's just painful getting up. But I'm sure it will get better. Can't wait for week 3!

So happy to hear it went well! The difficulty moving in the beginning is rough, but just brace yourself and take it slow. Once you're up - it's a lot easier! Sounds like you're doing great. Woo!

Muscle pain is worse today but I'm actually getting out of bed by myself already which is so good to not depend on the hubby for that. Strong willed for sure. Started Protein liquids today. But still not ever hungry. Kind of hard to be hungry when you drink every 15 mins. Lol

Everyone kept saying "You won't have any hunger" and I'm like "How is that even possible?!"

Well, I'm 7 weeks out (yesterday) and I haven't felt any real hunger at all. It's the strangest thing. But it's kinda amazing. One less thing to worry about!

Just got my surgery date: June 1st. It's funny how fast May is flying by now. I feel like I have so much to get organized!

Lemm61 I thought I would get a March date when I met with my surgeon in Feb. at first I was upset that I couldn't have surgery until May 1st. But it was meant to be that way. I needed that time to learn about why I overeat & work those things out. Also it allowed me to get my blood sugars stable on my own before surgery. That was empowering. You'll do great. Just follow the program.

One of the ladies in my classes pretty much skipped her purée phase and just told me today she had a taco. Really? But that's her journey not mine. You have got to follow the program.

Someone skipped the pureed phase, skipped soft foods too I assume if she ate a taco! Cinco de mayo or not; I wasn't about to eat a taco today! I don't think my pouch could handle that yet. I'm almost a month out and not ready for hard foods yet; still working on the soft foods!

It's amazing to me that people are willing to have permanent surgical intervention to become a healthy weight and then don't follow the post op instructions. Smh.

That's crazy. I'm just at the chopped/small food stage now and couldn't think of eating a real taco. I did splurge and go to Chipotle to Celebrate a little Cinco de mayo but had meat, Beans and guac. No rice, no lettuce, no sour cream or any of that. And I still have 3/4 of the bowl left. It was a NSV to me. But I made sure to be mindful. I couldn't imagine chowing down on a taco, especially right after surgery.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
