I am six weeks out from surgery and am on the soft food phase. A friend at work asked if baby food would work for this phase. I have no idea, does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I though about this, but it was difficult to find ones with much Protein. I do remember trying one and it was disgusting, so I moved on from that idea :-) !

Someone asked this in my pre op class and thy also wrote something about it in my booklet. So basically they don't recommend baby food they told us in our class it's made for baby's and not adults so they prefer you make your own purée and stay away from baby food.

I'm not fond of cooking so my surgeon suggested I purchase some of the baby foods. I did buy meats, and some of the cereals. When that phase came, I was having a tough time, mentally, with trying it so.....several dollars wasted. That phase was a week out for me, so the thoughts of food was still nauseating. Shoot I'm 4 weeks out and not sure I could handle it, but since you are 6 weeks out it might not be as difficult.

I believe baby food in small glass jars can be acceptable during the puree stage. My surgeons directions actually listed "baby food fruits/vegetables" in the list of acceptable foods. But you have to read the labels. Many contain too much added sugar. Sugar need to be avoided.

Before surgery, I bought a few jars in preparation. But I never used them. My taste buds changed too much after surgery. So I didn't even want to try.

When discussing acceptable foods for the pureed stage my nut did mention that some patients like to just use baby food. However we both agreed on the "...but why would you want to?" front. You'll get much better flavor and nutrition by preparing a few things yourself. I made purees of each chicken tenderloins, crab meat, black Beans, and sweet potatoes at this stage, and they were so worth the effort.

Baby food was nixed by my NUT as well. The primary reason being Protein - it doesn't give you nearly enough for the amount you should be consuming after surgery. I picked up a small jar of chicken baby food at the store the other day and it only had 2 grams of protein. I'd have to eat 31 of them to get my required protein in for the day.

Baby food is disgusting. No need for it. Purée your own yummo food and/or eat soft food like yogurt and cottage cheese. Best first veggies to purée with some chicken broth is yellow squash or zucchini (don't forget a little salt and pepper). Yum yum.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
