Ok who is currently on a preop diet?!

Recommended Posts

I screwed up yesterday and hope it doesn't affect me reaching my weight loss goals. They want me to lose 14 pounds and I have lost 9 so far with 2 more weeks left so I am hopeful but TOM is coming so not totally confident. I am drinking a lot of Water to flush all that bloat from the sodium out.

I have had 2 slip ups since I started. The first time it was the day after my EGD and I think it was because I was out of it on EGD day and got behind on my Protein supplements. Yesterday, it was because I went on a really tiring hike and didn't drink enough Water or Protein ( I sweat incredible amounts so the 16 oz I brought must have not been enough) By the time I got home I was ravenous. Live and learn, I guess!

@@Katrinakit you can do it. You still have 11 more days. I didn't do so well myself. Not condoning slip ups but it happens. I am 3 days post op. Feeling I have better, doctor said everything went well, liver was still fat but he worked with it. That's all I remember lol.

I'm starting my three week Optifast shake pre-op diet tomorrow. I can have chicken and beef broth as well, and sugar free Jello, Decaf tea, sweetener drink mixes, etc.

I am nervous but oddly calm right now...

I'm currently on day 2 of a two week Optifast only diet. It was a struggle getting through the first day but I seem to be doing better today. Hopefully I can last until my surgery date of June 7th! :)

Hi all, on day 4 now and struggling- anyone else feeling more than a little sluggish? My 2 week pre op consists of three shakes of 206 calories each and tea and coffee only (and Water of course!). Have managed to get over the hungriness but my days feel like I'm wading through mud! Anyone else the same?

I just started my 2 week liquid diet on 5/20/16 so a couple of days before satisfied my cravings and ate as much as I can because i knew i was gonna be on a liquid diet. It's been really hard for me especially since I work from home and have to cook for my family. It's REALLY HARD! To avoid it but I have. I have a husband and teenagers that are supporting me and helping stay strong.

Ii am pre op with surgery date of May 3rd 2016. I have been prescribe two weeks of Optifast 900 shakes 4 times a day. I can also have up to 2 cups of green veggies and 1 tbsp of low cal dressing per day, with the addition of clear fluids and sugar free jell-o. I'm on day 3 and starving. I'm grumpy, tired, have a horrible headache, diarrhea and painful grumbles from my tummy. I have been struggling each day with hunger pains and wanted so badly to cheat. It's definitely extremely hard

Well I guess it's good they give you a preop diet. I didn't have one although I took myself off caffeine before the surgery. We were even told to eat a meal the night before surgery, a normal one, not a buffet. Everything went fine. I wonder why so many people have to do a preop liquid diet.

@@asmallerme2016 how exciting! Actually that seems like a lot to lose in 10 days! @@~Pam~64~ I don't know how you all are sticking to such a long preop diet!

Its really not bad. Its the LRD, high Protein, low carbs and fat. I guess it makes it easier cause i like most of the food in allowed. Lol. The 1st two months i didn't loose any. The 3rd weigh in ,i had lost 17lbs that month.

You have been doing your pre-op diet for FOUR months? My hat is off to you. You and I actually have the same starting weight. I was 291 when I first saw the surgeon last June. I'm down to 243 now, which is awesome bc my surgeon didn't think I was a great candidate for laparoscopic at my starting weight. He now feels I should be able to have the surgery laparoscopically without difficulty.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
