Yes, while on soft diet, it may be best. But once you go to regular foods, you'll be back to planning and preparing meals. You'll want them to be tasty, but healthy!

I've been more conscious of food porn since WLS. It doesn't "get" me the way it used to. All those fast food commercials, pizza commercials, and conveniently timed e-mails from Grub Hub at 11:45 am don't appeal to me near as much as they used to.

I'm guilty of being a cruise buffet fatty lol... I'm going on another cruise in the late fall/early winter. I will not be able to eat as much and that's great - like everyone else here, I'll get my "money's worth" by indulging in the tastiest and most expensive dining options!

I'm going to very much enjoy the other amenities anyway! Nothing better than hanging out on the deck overlooking the ocean and reading a good book.

Let you in on a little secret...

Those burgers are held together with pins and other bits and bobs so the "perfect" pickle and cheese slice and all that stuff doesn't shift when the model bites into it. There is a TINY section of that burger where it is safe to bite into. If they miss, they get the #$@! jabbed out of their mouth. Sometimes there's blood.

And the burgers are usually cold since it is safer than trying to hold them at a warm temp (and keeps the lettuce and other veggies looking fresher).

And they have to do that take dozens times to get it right, so the model has to spit out the bite or else she'd get sick eating cold gross burger. So after each bite, there's a "cut" and then she spits chewed up food all over the place.

Still sound appetizing? :D

Where they just show the beautiful ice cream or something on a plate is even grosser. Check this link out: http://mentalfloss.com/article/30195/11-ways-advertisers-make-food-look-delicious

THERE IS GLUE, MOTOR OIL AND HAIRSPRAY ON THAT food. :D :D

If you understand how they make that stuff look amazing... ;)

Oh that's not true. The next thing you are going to tell me is they "air brush" the covers of magazines. If you can't believe porn, what are you going to believe? ;-)

BUT WHAT ABOUT THOSE POOR LITTLE HAMBURGERS!

I guess I'm the only one who thinks Carls Jr. is gross? I can't stand their food.

OK...you do know that if they showed what 'real' people who eat all that crap look like, they wouldn't sell any of it, right? These kind of rants will dissipate once you see how good you look and feel. Then you won't care that these commercials don't show the reality of what eating that type of food actually does to you.

Go walking, I am so glad someone said it. I live with my husband and I just finished preparing him buffalo wings with ranch dressing on the side! Tje whole house smells of his dinner. I on the other hand had runny Beans and a cup of tea.. but I'm the one with the weight problem! It is important that I always remember the "WHY" behind my decision to have the SIPS procedure 9 days ago. I am down 14 pounds and I can see the weight loss in the mirror. No food is worth that feeling I received from looking at myself. Keep your heads up and watch DVDs instead lol.

@@Joyce 258 Fear not!! Baked buffalo wings and blue cheese dressing is a staple for me. You will get there and that is a perfect sleever meal. High fat, high Protein, low carbs. I don't do fried wings most of the time because they make me horrible gassy, but baked crispy? YUM!! 3-4 times a week!

Hell, man.....I wasn't joking.

I found the bishes....and bought 'em.

Gonna feed 'em to the family tonight.

Probably won't mess with them myself. My Teenage T-Rex will let me know if they are good or not.

Awesome comment crazygoose and some very good replies too. I think you will find as you get farther along with this is, is that the food will not appeal to you like before. I loved home made burgers on the grill with all the fixings and mayo and ketchup and fries and cold beer also, but not really. It doesn't taste the same and I could never even eat like that now, the pain would kill me. When we barbeque now, I still make me a big deluxe cheese burger but I cut a small section from it and eat it and throw the rest away. It's just not the same. I don't have any favorite food anymore. I don't even care for pizza now but I will still eat a small slice with the family because the kids love it. I'm over 2 years post op now. I still love food but in a different way. I think a healthy way.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
