What did you bring to the hospital?

Recommended Posts

I've been a lurker for about 6 months. This site has been a fantastic source of inspiration and knowledge. Tomorrow is my sleeve surgery. Just wanted to get any advice on what you brought with you to the hospital.

Thanks :)

iPhone, iPad, chargers, a hat (so I didn't have to brush my hair for going home), toothbrush, toothpaste. Wore the same clothes home that I came in. I normally wear contacts, but I just wore my glasses there. My stay was less than 24 hours so there wasn't anything else I needed that they didn't provide.

I stayed 3 nights, 4 days, and only used chapstick, my toothbrush, and deodorant. Everything else they provided and I went home in the same clothes. Pack light!

Pants were difficult for me the first week or so! I had a lot of pain in the incision areas. I'd reccomend a long tshirt or sleepy shirt/ lounge dress.

Good luck!!!!!!

Pants are difficult for me still at 8 days! Thank god for leggings and sweat pants. I wouldn't want to feel jeans or dress pants on my sore tummy yet.

I've been using gas x strips at home, but I wasn't allowed to at the hospital, no. They wanted me walking to relieve the gas.

Thank you all. Just got home. spent an extra night due to not being able to take in quite enough fluids and still had a little nausea. Feeling good, but I am on pain meds at the moment. Each day is definitely a little better. I took some of the advice you guys provided. Used (and needed) the hat for sure. Took my phone and charger. I know I have seen a lot of people say they used the GasX strips, so I had them, but the nurses said they won't work for the type of gas pain I was having. I read a lot of people who said they were very good help, so I just walked. Fortunately, my gas pains were pretty manageable by walking. No shoulder or back pain. Glad I took my own toothbrush. I had it in my mind that I was only staying one night, so I didn't bring Shampoo or deodorant. Wish I had, since the ones they provided didn't work quite as well. Slept, walked and sipped. The sipping was a challenge, but getting better. What an experience. Have never done anything like this before. I look forward to the next few months. Thanks again for sharing! You guys rock!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
