Trouble with protein/fluid intake

Recommended Posts

Sorry everybody if this is sort of a redundant topic!

I was sleeved 04/04 so I'm just a few days post op. Aside from incisional pain in my one big keyhole, everything feels pretty ok.

Today was my first day back on full liquids and I found I had a REALLY tough time getting my premier Protein shake down. 11oz took me nearly all day with breaks in between for Water. I probably had around 40 or less oz of Water and only the Protein from the shake. Someone tell me that this gets easier fast!!! In the interim, does any body have any suggestions for upping my intake of both? I've been sipping out of shot glasses all day! Lol

It does get easier, especially as you heal and the swelling goes down. Just keep sipping and do everything you can to get it in. The sooner you can reach your targets the better you will feel. Early out, I even took my premier Protein to bed at night and didn't turn out the light until I finished it.

According to my surgeon there is no physical reason we can't drink three premier Proteins the day after surgery. That is 90 grams Protein and 33 oz of Fluid right there.

Keep sipping!

Ok, I'll do my best! Maybe it's hesitation on my part? I appreciate the words of encouragement :)

I feel like it's hesitation on my part, too! I can definitely get the shakes down, but it's uncomfortable, so I shy away from it. I'm trying to find that line between uncomfortable and painful and learn to stop there. It's hard!

Temp, temp temperature!! I LOVED ice cold water...not no more..warm, room temp or hot...isopure has several flavors and each bottle has 40gm protein...i only care for the ice tea flavor...the rest i dont care for they are a bit expensive but just try them...aso i warm up my Protein in the microwave just for a few seconds...not sure about your nutritionist but yogurt, ricotta, pudding, cottage cheese was on my ok list in the liquid phase both protein!! I made baked ricotta...so many ways to get your protein in....when i first got sleeved they told me not to worry about protein until about a few days later...to just focus on liquids...i did top ramen...flavors i liked just poured out the liquid...tossed the noodles lol...dr thought that was brilliant lol

I bought a 2 Oz measuring cup I got at the container store. I uses that to gauge how much I was drinking, Protein and Water. The bottle of Water seemed so overwhelming, but when you do a couple of ounces at a time, it does not seem so bad. Keep sipping. It will get easier. I had bypass almost a month ago.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
