Sleep Apnea as Comorbidity

Recommended Posts

Just filed with insurance. 35 bmi with sleep apnea. sleep Apnea is mild but they did prescribe a CPAP. Worried might get denied since isn't severe sleep apnea. Insurance with BCBS OK. Anyone else have this & what was outcome?

I was accepted, but I don't know how my sleep apnea was presented to insurance. I was prescribed a CPAP, couldn't tolerate it, and ended up with a dental device.

I was told by my surgeon's office that when they submit, they simply say "Obstructive sleep Apnea" ...they do not qualify as mild, moderate or severe. I asked specifically because I have Anthem BCBS (in CT) and for it to qualify as a co-morbidity, sleep apnea must be severe...and mine was mild. Also, the ICD-10 code is the same regardless of if it is mild or severe, so there's that.

Good luck. It is nerve-racking.

When will you be submitted? I am curious to see how you make out!

They submitted Monday & said we should hear something in a couple of weeks. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas!

Was your mild sleep apnea excepted at a comorbidity?

Mine was.

It has to be over a level 20 and mine was/is 22. A high level is 60. Not sure of the units but know it is related to the number of times you wake up per hour.

Hey - I'm in this 'trying to get approved' dance that I'm hoping will end soon just spoke with my insurance coordinator and after my peer to peer today - the insurance company said they would approve my surgery if my sleep study indicated it - so now I'm scheduled for a sleep study - my BMI is 36.3 and I do snore but I'm so worried that I WILL PASS my sleep study - it's the only time I've prayed to fail something did you know you had 'sleep apnea' before you submitted?

No I didn't know until after my sleep study. I'm a snorer as well. The surgeon didn't think I was going to have sleep apnea because he said my neck wasn't very big and how I had answered the questions he asked. But he was Wrong!! I did & I was also so excited to have it. So I totally understand praying for it....i did the same thing LOL. I pretty much figured that night of my sleep study. I had a split study so when they came in the second half of the night to put a CPAP on me I kinda figured I must have had it. But even after I got the CPAP and we resubmitted to insurance I was a nervous wreck until I new 100% it was approved. So I will pray they send you for a CPAP after the study!! Good luck & keep us posted!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
