Late July/early August for me. My last appt is May 26 and they said surgeries are scheduled around 2 months out right now. Hopefully they're alil better staffed then tho so it's quicker lol. I'm lucky that my insurance only wants 3mo of classes. Nobody told me I had to lose during preop tho? I've been seeing people mention it in here...?

I thought I wouldn't be having mine until late August/September but they said July and my last appt will be July. I don't have to lose weight either but I can't gain any before the surgery or my insurance will deny me. I'm a smoker but I only have to quit 30 days before. I only have to do preop diet 3 days instead of the week or 10 days I see others have to do it. I guess there are different rules depending on the insurance, the doctor and the patients health.

@@alwest68 Exactly! It's all based on your individual insurance as well as what your doctor wants. My surgeon tested for nicotine the day of our first class. On my insurance I didn't have to lose any certain amount or percentage, but instead I had to do 6 months of supervised weight loss with the nutritionist or physician as well as keeping a food AND exercise log for the entire 6 months. That log has to show at least 80% compliance with good eating habits and exercising. They also require me to continue that log all the way up until my surgery date and can request it at any time. I understand the why... but it's still a little unnerving! My surgeon requires 2 week pre-op diet of liquid only. 5-6 HMR shakes per day (which have to be purchased through them), unlimited sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles and a limited amount of low sodium broth plus Water, Water and more water. The last 2 days are Clear liquids only.

I've been doing a Protein shake for Breakfast and one for lunch most days, with some veggies, or a piece of babybel or laughing cow cheese for a snack, then a light dinner. I normally use Muscle Milk because they have some awesome flavors, but powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup Protein is my lunch time saver. I get so sick of sweet sometimes! Did you all know you can order a sampler from Unjury? It has 2 unflavored, 2 chicken Soup, 2 vanilla, 2 chocolate and 2 strawberry plus a little rubbermaid shaker and a thermometer (for the warm chicken soup one). My surgeon has encouraged us to try different Protein Shakes pre-op so we can decide what we might like after surgery. Have any of you found a protein you absolutely love?

@@MomOf4OhMy I have heard your taste buds change after surgery, something that you may like can become too sweet. I haven't really tried any yet, did try the Quest bars not real fond of them at all especially the chocolate chocolate chip one blahhhh lol. You can get free samples from Quest and a couple others also I can let you all know if you want.

I had the 6months but didn't have to write it down I did gain last month a 1/2 they said the last visit has to be at or below what I started at so I'm ok so far (knock on wood) ????

I've heard the same thing, which is why I am loving the chicken Soup Protein :) I'm diabetic and sweets have never been a temptation for me, so even now I have trouble getting some of the sweet tasting ones down. I mix in some PB2 powder sometimes, which helps to cut the sweet. It's powdered Peanut Butter and really good in the banana and strawberry shakes. I'm sure it would be good in vanilla and chocolate too.

I do see the nutrionist but dont have to keep a long. I only ate once a day before but it was big meals and homecooking. Everything fried. So shes not having me even diet now just to get use to having 3 meals a day so I also started I cooperating the Muscle Milk and I also ordered the Unjury chicken and Unflavored. Im not a sweets person but have gotten the SF Jello and SF Popsicles. I figure I start now it wont be as hard later. I'm glad I dont have to do the 10 day preop diet. I dont know if I could. I can do 3 days because I already tried it but it was hard. To do 10 days would be a huge struggle. I have went from a pack a day smoking to about 3 packs a week. I quit for a couple months once a year just about every year so I can quit when I have to. I always start again because my husbands a smoker and I love my cigarettes. Lol I told my doc that I would be smoking up until 11:59pm the night I have to quit. He just laughed. Thats why Im having the sleeve so if I start again after it wont cause any problems. If you smoke after bypass he said It will give me ulcers. My only problem really has been eating more of stuff because my mind says I wont eat it again after surgery. My dietician says she hears that alot and not to worry because I will be able to eventually eat everything just not as much.

I was told that smoking after sleeve can cause ulcers too. It also slows down the healing process. Just be careful!

I'm usually good for a couple months. They said to quit a month before and at least a month after. I can do that easy. I will try to quit altogether but I've never made it past 6 months. I'm going to give it my best shot though.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
