Three Weight Loss Surgery Maintenance Models - Abstinence, No Dieting, or Mindful Moderation

Recommended Posts

I am not quite there yet, but my plan is to use calorie restriction whenever there is a '5' in front of my weight and mindfulness if my weight starts with a '4'. So over 50kg restrict, below 50kg be mindful.

No idea if this will actually work, but I have lost this weight so many times before and put it all back on that I plan to watch the scales like a hawk.

Mindful moderation worked well for me until my band was removed and then the little part of my brain that said "o you haven't had (insert food here) in so long because you physically couldn't eat it, one won't hurt you". Yeah all downhill from there

It seems like I eat less on #3 than I do on #1...

I do a combo of #1 abstinence and #3 mindful moderation. Some foods like Bagels will never be in my shopping cart but the list of "nevers" is small. Usually I just track my food and weight myself daily to stay in check.

I've never had ANY weight-loss or weight-maintenance success with approach #1 or #2.

Both those approaches ... the "Abstinence = total Restriction of #1; and ...... the "No Diet = Intuitive Eating" of #2, have never been workable plans for me.. not at any time during the years BEFORE or at any time during the years AFTER WLS.

For ME, weight-loss and maintenance success can only be had through approach #3. AND during the past 12 years, this "moderate" way-of-eating, has included Consistent, Ongoing, Daily, food tracking using a computer food journal.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
