Exercise class kicked my butt hard and now feeling defeated...

Go girl go!!!! Bet you're glad you had your rant here on BP. You got back nothing else but other WLS pals getting behind you and shoving you mentally in the right direction. We have all had our physical limitations to some extent, some more than others. I'm not going to fib to you and say that my journey so far has been as hard as yours cos it ain't but I've had my fair share of sore bits on my journey.

Having been a slim, strong professional ballet dancer in my youth I set myself up for lifelong eating problems and knackered joints. I LOVE food, always have but my 'stop' button stopped working a few years ago. The weight piled on and the overused joints took the consequent strain. Arthritis in my hips and knees plus a dodgy lower spine slowed me down to a level I hated. I had my right hip replaced 18 months ago (promised my consultant that I would lose weight before the op but guess what-didn't lose an ounce) and promised myself that I would get fit. Luckily, had dogs who needed to be walked so had to get off my arse and so I toddled off every day. Six months later, I went to a ballet company reunion and guess what? I was the only lardy lump there. The pics that were taken that day made me so ashamed that it gave me the kick up the backside to investigate WLS. Since then, I've had sleeve surgery, got myself a Misfit Shine, started using My Fitness Pal, got another dog and started swimming. My husband and various dog walking pals have noticed that I am now walking in a normal way and not hobbling along, I move faster and go for miles. I swim for half a mile most days then dog walk. Newest mutt never gets tired so my goal is to completely knacker her but think I'll have my work cut out. I can't run as my back and knee just wouldn't wear it but I can walk for Britain. I love it. I may not be working my way to an Olympic gold but I'm very happy with my fitness now, thank you. The excess flab is waving my frame goodbye quite slowly but the pace of the weight loss doesn't bother me. I am stronger, fitter, have more stamina and feel years younger. Off to make another cuppa and then off to our local park, Bushy Park which is a Royal Park, owned by the Queen. Google it-it's beautiful and five minutes away from my home.

Don't give up, the rewards are just too wonderful and all the sweat and pain are worth it. YOU are worth it.

You're on. Just get in touch when you pitch up on this side of the pond. Been there this morning for two hours. Sheer bliss.

My favorite quote is "stay on your own yoga mat". Just worry about yourself. And try to change your mindset. Try to think about the journey you are on. Yeah, right now you can't do much but if you put in the work, imagine where you will be at the end of 12 weeks! You'll get "Most Improved" award! And, as you said you would be doing, do these things on your own during the week so that when you have to meet up for the class, you will already be improved somewhat. Look at this as something to conquer, a challenge--whether it is fun or necessary. You have GOT this! One step at a time, you will be able to improve. We have all been there, we are all still there at some level. I'm still learning to try to run a mile. I just keep trying. I'm not consistent, which you should be and I'm working on improving that but if you are as consistent as possible, you can do this. It's mostly about changing your thinking around it. And only compete with yourself. Try to do a bit more and faster than you did before. Not anyone else.

I have every faith that you will do this, succeed and by next year, I bet you will even do a 5k!!

So today was the last class - hard to believe 12 weeks is up already and I'm getting surgery tomorrow morning! Thought I'd post an update since we had the end of class assessments today.

To recap week 1:

Weight 394lbs

6 minute walk test - 414 meters

plank hold - 12 second

week 12

Weight 364lbs

6 minute walk test - 463 meters - a little disappointed here but i'm blaming it on zero energy since starting the 2 week pre-op diet!

plank hold (did this before the walk test) - wait for it....47 seconds!!!! yep from 12 seconds to 47 in just 12 weeks! and frankly i'm still just amazed I can get into a plank position let alone hold it for any time

oh and guess what? after all my concerns about being in the worst shape in the class (and I had to travel the furthest to get to it - over an hour), I was the ONLY one who had perfect attendance :D

First and foremost, this isn't gym class and you aren't getting a grade.

Second, you are lapping EVERYONE whose @ss is still planted firmly on the couch.

GOOD FOR YOU.

Edit to add:

Clearly I was late to the party with the above post and I just got to your update.

GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
