I am a huge fan of using positive affirmations to improve my self talk.

What are some of your favorite affirmations?

One of mine is: I am a precious child of God.

When I'm feeling low or flat and in need of a pick-me-up, I actually think about something my then 3 year old nephew said to me one day...

He walked up to me, put his little hands on my cheeks and held my face to make sure he had my full attention...

He looked right, deep into my eyes and said "Unky Jase..."

He calls me Unky Jase...

"Unky Jase... Sometimes your bum is your arse..."

I think there's something in that for all of us...

One of mine is "OK, I will put on my big girl panties and do it anyway!" It reminds me that when things get tough and I would rather run and hide from the problem, the right answer is just to deal with it. ("Big" meaning grown-up not a reference to size...)

I have a small note on my bathroom mirror from my youngest niece that she wrote to me a couple of years before my surgery. She was about 5 at the time. It simply says, "Pam, You are beautiful!"

She is one of my most consistent walking buddies when I go to visit them and always has been. She is the one that when I say I am going for a walk. Does anyone want to join me? She is always willing. The only one more consistent is their dog, Sadie. :)

I have used this phrase here before. I'm sure, at least some folks think I'm being rude.

But I think it and say it to myself a lot. It expresses exactly what I need to do to care for myself and rise to the occasion, whatever that is:

"Buck up!"

Not sure that's an affirmation. But it's certainly instructions.

;)

Wondering whether to share this when we are being positive. 30year old friend of mine, overweight had a heart attack yesterday. I wasnt there, CPR till paramedics arrived, 2 stents in her heart, induced coma, now they think that if she survives she will have brain damage. This girl runs our volunteer cattery 3 days a week and works as well. My surgery is Monday. I think for all of us, 'there, but for the Grace of God'. I hope she makes it through okay, almost certain her weight contributed to this.

I am so sorry to hear this. I am praying for your friend and you as well.

There are no guarantees in this life but I know for me the surgery has already given me back more quality of life than I had hoped for before surgery. My obesity was (and still is) a ticking time bomb.

I wish you all the best. Keep us updated on how you are doing.

Thanks, been praying for her myself. So young. Still, you never know what changes this will bring to her family. We cant afford to be complacent, but at her age I was too. Glad your sleeve has changed your life for the better. I am pretty sure mine will too. I am a Water lover and would love to go boogie boarding again or do a scuba course. Unfortunately, we are getting a lot of surfers bitten by sharks lately, so maybe rethink that.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
