Does anyone else have Humana insurance? I'm worried about being approved. I am at the very very beginning of the sleeve process. Just turned in my patient info packet to my surgeons office. But currently, I am BMI 37.6 with no documented co-morbidities. I really want this surgery though any advice?

I had Humana when I had my sleeve surgery. They paid all of the cost except for my copy of $200 for in patient hospital stay. Highly think you'll get approved. Have faith my friend. God is great, he will care for you.

I have Humana and got approved in 2 days. My Bmi was around 40, with sleep apnea. I was told by my surgeon that Humana was easier than any other insurer. My surgery date is April 14

Thank you for the hope :)) Were you also below 40 BMI with no co-morbidity?

I wish someone had told me to call Humana before my initial doctor appointment. I went to my first appointment in December and had a BMI of 38.7. Humana requires 40 without co-morbidities, which I do not have. They initially denied my surgery. Also, refused to pay any of the doctor visit, $162.00. I was so upset that I was less than 10 pounds away from being approved. My surgeon's office was great and hinted that if I gained weight I could come back to see if I qualified.

I did end up gaining weight with a BMI over 40, and am now awaiting insurance approval. But, I had to pay another doctor visit of $162.00, just to get weighed. Also, Humana did not require a psych evaluation or a 6 month waiting period, which was nice, but what they do require was a $5,000.00 deductible. I really want the surgery and think it is worth the money in the long run. I have scheduled my meeting with the dietician and can schedule my surgery as soon as 2 weeks afterwards. My surgeon requires a 2 week liquid diet before the surgery.

Humana is easy to work with, but on my plan, you will pay a lot. Hopefully your experience is better. Good luck!

I'll just say this.....if you don't have any other qualifying conditions it's important that when you are weighed during your initial visit with the surgeon that you have an BMI of at least 40....

I have Humana and I thought it was a great insurance. I was approved in a week after submitting all the paperwork from my PCP ( 3month diet)to the surgeons office. I had to pay my deductible which was $1,000 and then everything else was covered 100%.

Humana has different plans that cover this surgery they have one where I am in GA and it's the national pos open access plan the other is Humana Hmox plan! I was in the open access plan but there wasn't a big difference except I didn't have to have a referred to see a specialist , which means I could go without a pcp referring me, however this plan was almost 350.00 a month and I had a 3,500 max deductible that had to be met!!! VS the plan I have now is the Humana hmox and I have a 750 out of pocket max I have to have a referral to see anyone outside of my pcp but all the qualifications was the same!!!! My insurance I pay a month with this plan is 150 and too me it's better!!!! If I was anyone I would call around and ask questions I even called Humana and asked to speak to someone in there bariatrics department to see what all I needed and to see if I met the qualifications!!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
