UK - Protein Powder / Bars / Best protein food tips please

Recommended Posts

Hi, Am hoping someone can help. There seems to be tonnes of fab info online from USA users, however, I went into Holland and Barrett today and was studying nutritional tables on their products but can anyone recommend a particular brand to use above others? Also, Water flavours etc, wind ease strips (are these available in the UK?) Can you take rennie or similar? Surgery date is a month away and am trying to get organised ahead of travelling to Southampton from Jersey for surgery. Many thanks in advance. xx

I use PhD diet whey protein...you can order through Amazon or at a fitness shop. I am four months out and still have a Protein Shake every day. Haven't used any Protein Bars. As for liquid..puree stage...stuck to broth...yogurt...refried beans...I am now eating steak, chicken and turkey mince for protein...and lots of cheese. You will find what you can and can't tolerate. I didn't use anything for gas pains...just walked. Slept a lot first week. I hope all goes well!

Hi, I use MyProtein which you can order online, great delivery and the chocolate and unflavoured work the best for me - its very much trial and error re what tastes good to you. I never got on with Protein bars and frankly for the first 3/4 months, you might find them too "heavy" to process.

Gas wasn't and issue, but chewable antacids should work.

Good luck

Hi there, I'm another MyProtein user, order online and get the order through really quickly. I stick with unflavoured isolate and make up my own flavour combinations. You can also use the unflavoured in recipes that you can find online. These recipes are not just for shakes either. Good luck.

I am super enviable of all the options they have in US, especially this Isopure clear Water stuff!!

I'm using The Protein Works Protein, it's a UK based online company I've tried 6 flavours and hate them all but they have countless more. Now I'm buying unflavoured and adding sugar free cordial, I still hate it but it's better than those rotten fake flavours! Some people like them but u can't get past the fakeness!!

I order my shakes from theproteinworks.com, their shakes taste good and come in a wide variety of flavours. I use the whey isolate 97, which is low carb. They also have lots of other types of Protein products, but not all are low carb so check the stats. Be careful of protein bars! All the ones I've seen in stores have been high protein, but also high calories and carbs/sugars. Gas-x strips are not available in the UK, but if you're willing to pay you can order them from Amazon (I personally didn't have trouble with trapped gas).

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
