hi.... yes, I have had major hair loss. I have been taking biotine since 2 months but that does not seem to be helping me. Right now, I target 80-100 g of Protein and my hair is still coming. I have a theory.... the first Hair loss starts at 3 months then a second hair loss comes around 9-10 months. I am now in the second hair loss. I really hope this is limited to two times. In talking with friends, they have the same issues. So crossing fingers I will see some new Hair growth soon.

Same for me on the Hair loss. I wasn't expecting a second round, but it's not lasting as long as the super heavy losses months 5 thru 8.

hair loss is a common bodily reaction to severe calorie restriction and rapid weight loss. A higher than usual portion of our hair follicles go into a dormant state for a while. I think this happens mostly between months 3 and 9, but it varies. The good new is that they wake up again. What can you do to help fight or shorten it? Lots of Protein, lots of fluids, and take a Biotin supplement daily.

The main reason for Hair loss after WLS is not getting enough Protein.

I am 4 months 8 days out and I have so wavey hair and when I take a shower I cry when I see how much hair is coming out . I also take Bioten 1000 mg and it seems to do nothing for me.

I am afraid to go to myhairdresser to have my color done because of it.

So the hair is falling out from the actual root? Is it in Patches or all throughout? I heard that Biotin doesn't really help or does it depend on the person?

I'm afraid I can't speak to how it falls out. I was fortunate not to have experienced Hair loss. Whether that's because I eat 80-100 grams of Protein, drink about 120 ounces of fluids, and take a Biotin supplement daily, or because I'm blessed with strong hair genes, I can't say. But I'd suggest it's worth going the protein/fluids/biotin route. It's kind of what we're supposed to be doing anyway, right? Good luck!

some hair loss is seasonal. so if the timing of your surgery coincides with a normal shedding period your losses will seem greater.

eggs are a great source of Biotin and Protein.

If you need the surgery I wouldn't let Hair loss stop you. I'd rather live longer and get a wig or hat if needed - I don't have a lot of hair to loose, but that's ok. keeping my Protein and fluids up and loosing at a slow and steady pace, so we'll see.

I am about 8 months outs from surgery. My hair lose started at 2 months out. It continued through month 7. It has slowed back up to a normal amount of lose for me in the last month. It really has to do with the rapid weight lose. I always get my 70+ grams of Protein in a day. I drink 80 oz of Water a day. I have been doing both of these things since about 7 weeks out. I also been doing sublingual Biotin since before surgery. I think some people are luck and have limited hair lose while other like me lose it by the handfuls. I was just glad my hair was really thick, so it has been bare able for me. Also for those who wonder, I have colored my hair throughout my hair lose. My hair actually felt fuller after my hair was colored. Good luck!

The loss of hair is the result of the rapid weight loss, not necessarily the type of WLS. I had a sleeve, friend had band, another friend had GBP ... all 3 of us lost hair just at different rates and at different times in our journey.

Mine started around 2-3 months and came out by the handful everyday in the shower. By about 5-6 months it was coming back in. I am now 10+ months out and have not had a 2nd round. It still isnt as thick and full as it was, but I never had bald spots either.

I don't think the Biotin will prevent loss, but it does help make what you have thicker and healthier.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
