4 Days Post Op Problem

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I had gastric bypass on March 8. I did great inthe hospital no nausea or vomiting. I had broth, jelloIsopure and ice chips. The doc said to add Protein Shakes when I got home. I came home Thursday, that evening I had one Premier Protein shake and later 1 oz Jello. I was fine able to take all meds. Yesterday I got up drank a shake too some meds a few hours later had jello and took pain pill with jello. I then got the worst pain under my breast bone and down front left side and was nauseated. It took about 45 till I vomited all the jello and pain pill. I felt somewhat better but not much. Four hours later I tried more jello and pain pill I vomited all up. I was and have been in so much pain since yesterday and my stomach is making all sorts of noises. I feel nauseated and full up to the back of my throat. I'v only had sips of Water today and they make it worse. I called the dietician, she said to go back to ice chips and I have since yesterday..not helping And no pain med since yesterday morn. Can you advise?

You should call your doctor. Maybe you can't handle the pill form yet. When I was discharged I got liquid pain meds.

yeah, call your doctor's office. I had to crush all my meds and could only drink sips of stuff at a time - but you can't be throwing up all the time - you will get dehydrated. Your doctor's office should have someone to call even after hours.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
