Forgetting about your sleeve?

Recommended Posts

So is it normal to sometimes forget that you've been sleeved?

I keep forgetting. I go to take a bite of something then right as I pick it up I have to remind myself that my tiny tummy can't handle that right now. It's very frustrating. I'm 7 days out and the tenderness is gone unless something pushes directly onto the incision, I forget i I have them and that I've had the surgery..... is this normal?

I didn't take a bite of ANYTHING for a lot further out than 7 days.

Your new stomach is healing right now......please be very careful.

What type of things are you eating now?

Blended Soups. @@Dub it's not intentional. I just keep forgetting that I have my new tiny tummy and I'm supposed to just be on liquids. I have managed to catch myself everytime, but I forget that I can't eat something.

Last night I cooked dinner for the family and as I was making their plates a small bit fell onto my finger and I had it at my mouth before I realized what I was doing! :o I don't want to break my post op diet. I definitely don't want to have my tummy rip or the pain associated with eating something I shouldnt. But I'm not sure how to make myself remember? I don't have any pain anymore so I don't have that as a reminder.

Same here but not with bites I'm 2 weeks post op and have been on liquids I just now started my shoes today like cottage cheese but i have forgotten when I'm thirsty and gone in for a huge drink of Water

I do this too and realize right before I swallow that my stomach will probably end up regurgitating it. So I sit most of it out.

I only did this with Water when I started exercising after surgery. I'd go to guzzle a bottle of water & be like "uh oh! That doesn't work anymore!" Other than that, I was VERY aware of what I was eating & made sure to stick to my post-op diet.

I'm sticking to my post op diet. I just mean that the pain of surgery is gone and sometimes I forget I've had it done. I've had my old stomach for many years. My new one has only been here for less than 2 weeks and I forget. I've recovered extremely fast. I'm back to everything I was going before with no issues. So I forget.

Yes, I have had this to happen to me as well. I am 10 days post-op and while fixing my husband dinner I had a bite up to my mouth. Then it hit me. Aww man I had surgery and I can't eat this. Definitely an adjustment.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App

EXACTLY! I am now 10 days as well! I didn't expect to struggle with this. I'm not alone!

I used to do it all the time at first. Cooking dinner, mindlessly pop something into my mouth. Old habits are hard to break, but you'll get there.

I left the hospital with very little pain, if any. I would have gone back to work soon after but my boss wouldn't let me. I meant that I had to be ultra aware of what foods were around me & stick strictly to my post-op diet because I didn't have anything like pain to remind me of my change in tummy size either. I cooked dinner for my family & had to mentally stop myself from tasting the sauce like usual, and stop myself from lunch sharing at work like we always do. It was a mental thing for me ... tellung myself to just stick to my diet. The Water thing was the one area that I just seemed to "forget" & old habits kicked in ... until that first big gulp hit & I got a pretty good reminder in the form of OUCH!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
