Hi all

I am just over five weeks since being sleeved and am still on purée but not getting much down- usually no more than 6 teaspoons. Just wondering if this is normal at this stage. I am having a bit of anxiety about going out for meals socially as I haven't told anyone apart from family about the op and worried it will become obvious when I literally don't eat anything so wondering when people started to be able to get a bit more down

Danielle I am also 5 weeks tomorrow post op with a sleeve and I am the same Like today my lunch was 1 cheese stick and 4 slices of Landofrost turkey and maybe 1/2 of the cup of yogurt. I opened a progresso can of Lentil Soup Saturday night and was only able to eat 1/2 cup Saturday and last night. I still have a whole cup waiting for me to eat tonight, if I can get it down.

Like you 4 to 6 teaspoons of something and I am done. I have no desire to eat, let alone eat out in a restaurant. However I know it is important to eat to get the 60 grams of Protein, so my Breakfast is a 30 gram Protein shake.

Hopefully some Weight Loss Veteran will be able to answer that question for us. The pleasure of eating is gone for me too. Wondering if it that will ever come back. I am very happy for what I have lost but feel I should be eating more by now. But then I realize my tummy is still healing.

I'm 7 weeks out and I as well can't eat that much. When going out I eat what I can and bring the rest home. The blog "the world according to egg face" has a lot of recipes for left over food. It is wonderful, I'm on there daily.

Oh believe me, someday you're going to look back on the days of being able to barely eat and long for them ;)

Hey All,

I am 8 weeks post op and ate an entire 5 inch sub this weekend! :o It was so good I just gobbled it up but paid for it later. I don't throw up when I eat too much but kinda wish I did. Just feel really miserable for a while. Not sure why but I have been able to tolerate most foods since about 2 wks post op. Milk, spicy and carbonated stuff don't work well but just about everything else seems to be ok, in much smaller amounts than pre-surgery though. Sometimes I wonder if it would be better if I couldn't tolerate most things but as long as the weight is coming off its all good.

I tackle the restaurant issue by getting stuff boxed up and eating only what feels comfortable. I find myself more tempted to drink fluids with my meals at restaurants. My family "support team" will gently remind me not to drink that glass of Water at the table ;)

@@BabyNewYear - I too have been able to tolerate most foods even spicy foods & milk early out, I am about 10mos post.

I haven't done anything carbonated though. My team said no to carbonated stuff, unless I let it go flat :( and that was still not in the healing phase where you are now. I have read on here that a few here have an occasional carbonated drinks with no issues. Most feel discomfort, so I have opted to forgo the drinks.< /p>

I'm 5 months out and have been able to eat a little more for a while. First month, a yogurt was my limit (5.3 ounces), now I'm around 8 ounces.

This is actually a very good place to be. I can eat out and not be that obvious. For a while, I was splitting with my wife (who is watching her weight and has lost 20 lbs along with me).

Sometimes I think I've stretched a little, but then I start to fill up after 4-5 bites.

I think the key is to focus in Protein cuz it's a lot of work to get down 75 grams per day without liquid or powder.

I also find that sticking to Protein really kills my appetite.

I'm seven months out and can eat about half a cup at meals. That usually translates into a portion of Protein and a few bites of some veggie carbs. I still do a Protein supplement shake a day and add unflavored protein to things like sugar free pudding to make sure I get my protein in. I am finding that the amount I eat is increasing and rather than try to increase meal sizes, I am increasing frequency and adding things like Jerky and high protein Snacks during the day. Right now I am eating three meals and two Snacks per day. This allows me to feel satiated throughout the day without eating too much at meals. My weight loss has slowed, but it still continues and I am feeling a lot less stressed about food.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
