I want pureed food!

Recommended Posts

I got my gastric sleeve surgery on February 6th. My doctor has me on a clear liquid diet for a month. I am doing well, but I do crave other flavors then Water, chicken broth, and my Protein Shake. Am I the only one that has to wait a month to eat the pureed foods? I have been looking up a lot of YouTube videos and most of the people got to eat a week later! When did everybody else begin to eat pureed Or soft foods?

I have to do liquids one week, purée one week, soft one week and then normal. I am several days into the purée week and I think a week may have been too fast to move up or it needs to be more graduated. I feel so full for a very long time after i eat anything with even a little thicker consistency like adding PB2 to my Protein Shake or cream Soup that has been strained.

I have done 2 weeks of clear fluids and am now on 2 weeks of full fluids which includes thinned down Greek yogurt, puréed Soup and Protein shakes. I was sleeved February 9th. After I finish 2 weeks of full fluids I move on to soft foods for a minimum of 2 weeks and then to solids.

It's weird how every surgeon seems to have a different plan of attack for getting back to eating. I think my surgeon works really hard at having us create good habits which helps with our long term success.

I agree though I don't care to ever consume broth or Jello again!! Good uck and just try to keep really focused on the process.

I am to begin " soft" Protein 2 weeks post op!! I agree with you, it is not easy on the liquid diet

I am sure each MD has a protocol for a reason...I am rooting for you!

I had surgery on the 9th and I'm on clear liquid for a month as well. I begged my doctor on Friday to let me start puree and his response was "hell no" haha. He said that the staples are not strong enough to handle more than liquid right now. I told him that I can't even stand the thought of Protein anymore and he said that is very normal but to keep plugging away. Less than 1.5 weeks away and I finally get to move to the purée stage. I'm having a hard time getting my Water and Protein down but I know it's for the best. Hang in there!!!! We can do this!

I have to be on liquids until March 13th. I was sleeved Feb 12th. It seems so far away. But I've been on liquids since January 30th. Hasn't been fun.

A month seems like a very long time. I was sleeved one the 18 and I'm about to be moving to my puréed foods. I have two weeks of all liquids and then puréed foods for 2 weeks then I slowly introduce regular foods to my diet.

I have two weeks of a liquid diet and then two weeks of pureed foods. I am starving ALL the time. I am miserable! I did not expect to be dealing with this hunger all the time. Today was the first day I did not get all of my Protein in. I could not take one more bite of greek yogurt or one more drink of a Protein shake, I was eating and drinking those things six months before surgery and I want to puke every time I have to consume them now. Once I am on food, I don't think I will ever eat or drink those same things again. I will find an alternative. I feel for you having to wait an entire month. It is very interesting how every doctor is different with their instructions.

I had to do 3 weeks on liquids and now 2 of blended/mushy food. However my Clear Liquids phase counted anything thin enough to run through a fork, not anything literally clear, so I had more choices. Maybe check with your doc and see if they would be OK with you doing other soups/yogurts as long as they were thin and had no lumps.

I had my surgery on the 23rd and have to be on clear liquids for a week then I move to purée and I can't wait. I'm getting tired of Jello and Water. I had chicken broth the day of surgery and when I came home, & I don't like the taste.

That's the same struggle I'm going through now o had surgery the 23 of feb. tired of the same today I was starving at least I thought I was I sip on tea to kill the hunger and I'm still on broth jello icy popsicles Monday they start me on Protein Shakes ugh it's so hard considering I'm the one who cooks at home I lost 12 pounds and I think it was all water from the iv and liquid diet they have me on I just can't wait to eat regular foods even if it is smaller portions. How many ounces are you intaking?

How much Water do you drink? I have to drink 2.5 liters of Water a day, within that I need half a liter with my protein. That keeps me feeling full!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
